(West Java, Indonesia) Effective July 1st, all government workers will be required to wear shoes made in Indonesia. The policy, announced Friday, is in accordance with a 2009 presidential decree.
West Java Governor Ahmad Heryawan said that the Indonesian shoe policy will be enforced by routine shoe checks. Violators will face punishment of various forms, including push-ups.
[Heryawan] said it would be up to officers-in-charge to ensure that their employees were toeing the line, adding that checking shoe brands would be “easy.”Typical. The bosses are exempt from the shoe law.
However, Heryawan said district- and municipality-level officers will not be required — but encouraged — to follow the rule.
