Baby for Sale

(New Castle County, Delaware) A 33-year-old woman, Bridget Wismer, has been accused of selling her one-month-old baby son to a 54-year-old man, John F. Gavahan, for $15,000.

Both Wismer and Gavahan face charges of felony dealing in children and conspiracy.

Wismer's grandmother reportedly alerted police of the alleged offenses.

According to court documents, the 33-year-old left her child in the hospital with John F. Gavahan, a bookie known for selling prescription drugs, and left for a casino in Philadelphia.

She asked for $15,000 for the newborn but Gavahan added an additional $2,000 for being allowed to sign his name on the child’s birth certificate.

Upon Gavahan’s arrest he revealed to police that he wasn’t the baby’s biological father because he had never had a sexual relationship with Wismer.

Wismer and Gavahan were booked and released.
