(Sao Paulo, Brazil) Responding to a complaint from a non-governmental organization (NGO), the Foundation for the Protection and Defense of the Consumer has ruled that McDonald's Corp. is guilty of "encouraging the formation of distorted values" by putting toys in Happy Meals.
As a result, a fine of $1.8 million has been imposed on McDonald's. The company denies any wrongdoing and may file an appeal.
Thus far, it seems the name of the non-governmental organization filing the original complaint has not been identified. It would be nice to know who is doing the accusing.
It would also be nice to know what "encouraging the formation of distorted values" specifically means. I suggest it couldn't be any more vague.
