Woman Faces Child Neglect and Drug Charges

(St. Lucie County, Florida) A 31-year-old Pennsylvania woman, Julie Marie Dengler, has been accused of child neglect and drug charges after leaving her 8-month-old child in the care of strangers at a bar.

Dengler faces charges of child neglect, disturbing the peace, possession of cocaine and possession of drug equipment.

Sheriff's deputies report being called to a bar in the 6300 block of U.S. 1, Fort Pierce, about 7:42 p.m. Friday. They found Julie Marie Dengler, 31, in the parking lot with the soiled infant and no ride. A deputy changed the baby's diaper and left after learning Dengler's brother was en route to pick up her and the child.

Deputies were called back to the bar at 9:55 p.m. and found Dengler and the infant still inside. The manager said Dengler was making patrons uncomfortable by leaving the baby unattended while asking them for drinks.

Dengler was booked into custody with bail set at $12,375.
