Ohio Teacher Sentenced for Tampering with Evidence - Update

(Toledo, Ohio)
A former Bedford High School teacher was sentenced to four years community control for tampering with evidence relating to a large-scale psychedelic mushroom-growing operation.

Sara Thierry, 38, a former Spanish teacher at the school, pled guilty March 28 to tampering with evidence.

Jerome Phillips, a Toledo attorney with Wittenberg Phillips & Levy, said his client was sentences in front of Lucas County Commons Pleas Court Judge Dean Mandros, who ordered Mrs. Thierry to serve 150 hours of community service as part of her probation.

Matthew Thierry, 41, was sentenced to five years in prison.
A tampering with evidence conviction tied to an illegal mushroom operation may negate future teaching opportunities for Mrs. Thierry.

Ohio Teacher Accused of Drug Charges
[Previous 9/26/12 post]
(Toledo, Ohio) A 38-year-old Spanish teacher at Bedford High School, Sara Thierry, has been accused of multiple drug offenses.

Thierry faces counts of trafficking in drugs, illegal manufacturing of drugs, possession of drugs, and tampering with evidence.
Police allege that Mrs. Thierry had a role in the massive mushroom-growing operation that Toledo police busted while responding to a reported burglary in East Toledo on Sept. 16.

Police found the grow operation, though no one was in the house, and searched several other properties, all owned, in some part, by Mrs. Thierry's husband, Matthew Thierry, 41.[…]

Police have said they seized 137 pounds of mushrooms and valued the drugs at $3.1 million, but said the valuation could change once purity tests have been completed. Police believe that the mushroom seizure is the largest ever in the state.

In court documents, police allege that Mrs. Thierry had the drugs which were "prepared for shipment," assisted in the cultivation, and "did contact another by phone and ask that person to dispose of a thumb drive that was inserted into her husband Matthew Thierry's work laptop," the various charging documents state.
Mr. and Mrs. Thierry were booked into custody at the Lucas County Jail. Mrs. Thierry was released on $2,500 bond. Mr. Thierry is being held on $50,000 bond.
