Illinois Teacher Accused of Sex with Male Student

(Springfield, Illinois) A 36-year-old English teacher at Lanphier High School, Jennifer Tyree, has been accused of engaging in sex with a 17-year-old male student. Tyree's husband alerted the police to the alleged crime.

Tyree faces one count of criminal sexual assault.

The mother reportedly told police her son admitted the affair.

The mother said Tyree contacted her about a month ago, saying she was one of her son’s teachers and would like to mentor him in order to improve his grades, a police report said.

The mother also said Tyree had been visiting the student’s home to help him with assignments and had been taking him to movies and to kickboxing classes recently, according to the report. Tyree allegedly would call or text the student’s mother before picking up the student.

Tyree’s husband told the student’s mother he witnessed his wife and the student having inappropriate contact with each other and that the two had rented a hotel room on Sept. 21, police said.

Tyree was booked into custody on Wednesday.
