Alabama Teacher Gets No Jail on Federal Weapons Rap

(Huntsville, Alabama) A female teacher at Montview Elementary School, Desma Willis, has pleaded guilty to federal weapons charges with connections to a Mexican drug cartel.

Willis reportedly gave false information to a gun dealer in order to purchase guns for a third party.
U.S. Marshals accused Willis of lying to licensed gun dealers to buy weapons for someone else. An indictment alleges Willis purchased four weapons, including an AR-15 rifle, from two dealers.

Willis pleaded guilty to the federal charges. The judge sentenced the teacher to two years of supervised probation and six months of electronic monitoring.

Leaders at Huntsville City Schools had no idea about Willis’ legal troubles. The school district’s top brass is now doing its own investigation.
Note that Willis worked with an associate, Gary Madison, who bought more than two dozen guns for sale to drug cartel members. Madison was convicted and sentenced to 4 years, 9 months in prison.

Also note that the judge treated Willis leniently because of her "involvement in the community and limited criminal record."
