Kansas Woman Gets Prison in Sex Case

Traci E. Goldsberry

(Salina, Kansas) A 21-year-old local woman, Traci E. Goldsberry, pleaded no contest this week to raping a 13-year-old boy.

As a result, District Court Judge Jared Johnson sentenced Goldsberry to eight years in prison and lifetime registration as a sex offender.
Attorney Mark Dinkel, who represented Goldsberry, argued that a lifetime registration requirement and post-release supervision would amount to a life prison sentence for his client, who has Asperger’s syndrome and would not be able to be consistent about meeting the state’s requirements.

However, prosecutor Christina Trocheck, an assistant county attorney, argued that Goldsberry would do well with supervision and her crimes demanded it.

After an acquaintance reported the situation to police, Goldsberry told investigators she knew what she was doing was wrong, but she and the boy were in love, Trocheck said. Goldsberry’s sexual contact with the boy took place in January 2012.
Sad case.
