Carolina Teacher Gets Prison for Sex with Student- Update

(Boone, North Carolina)
A former Watauga County Schools teacher pled guilty in Watauga County Superior Court on Wednesday to charges of indecent liberties with a child and sexual activity with a student.

Judge Phil Ginn sentenced Amy Tilley Bower, 45, of 279 N.C. 194 S., Vilas, to 16 to 20 months in prison followed by five years of supervised probation for two counts of indecent liberties with a child, a Class F felony, as well as two counts of sexual activity with a student, a Class G felony.

In addition, Bower must pay $6,922.37 in restitution, a $200 fine and court costs, and she will be held responsible for the costs of any future treatment for the victims, Ginn said. He ordered Bower to undergo sex offender treatment, and she is required to register on the N.C. Sex Offender Registry for a period of 30 years. Ginn also indicated that Bower's teaching license would be revoked as a result of the conviction.
According to Watauga County Sheriff's Office Capt. Dee Dee Rominger, the two victims were between the ages of 12 and 14 during the times of the sexual misconduct, which occurred between 1998 and 2006.

(Boone, North Carolina) A 45-year-old fifth-grade teacher formerly at Cove Creek School, Amy Tilley Bower, has been accused of engaging in inappropriate sexual behavior with a minor.

The alleged offenses occurred between the years of 1998 and 2006.
As a result of the investigation Bower, who was born in 1968, was charged with two counts of “Sexual Activity with a Student” and two counts of “Indecent Liberties with a Child.”

Amy Tilley Bower was taken before a Watauga County Magistrate and given a secured bond in the amount of $50,000 and given a court date of Sept. 17, 2013.
