Florida Teacher Accused of Improper Relationship

(St. Lucie County, Florida) A 29-year-old coach/guidance counselor at Port St. Lucie High School, Cecilia Alvarez, has been accused of engaging in a month-long improper relationship with a 17-year-old female student.

Alvarez was arrested for interfering with the custody of a minor.
Sheriff Ken Mascara said their investigation revealed that the teacher was not sexually involved but had an improper relationship with the 17-year-old female victim for about a month, and the School Resource Deputy at Port St. Lucie High School became aware of the relationship, as did the victim's mother.

Detectives interviewed Alvarez at the school this morning, and the interview continued at Sheriff's office where she was arrested.[…]

Detectives also interviewed the victim who told them at the station she was unsure how the relationship began stating, "it just happened and now we are both in love."
Alvarez was booked into custody with bond set at $3,750.
