Louisiana Woman Guilty of Sex Crimes

An Elmer woman indicted on nearly 250 child-sex charges agreed Tuesday to a plea deal, though the terms of the arrangement have not been disclosed.

Ninth District Judge John Davidson set a court date of May 28 for Dorothy Jean Vanasselberg, 32, who has been in the Rapides Parish Jail since her arrest in July 2013.

Documents from the 9th Judicial District Court state that all of the offenses occurred between July 1, 2012, and Sept. 4, 2013.

A grand jury had indicted Vanasselberg on 53 counts of aggravated rape, 42 counts of sexual battery, 79 counts of aggravated incest, 48 counts of indecent behavior with a juvenile and 25 counts of pornography with juveniles.

Both aggravated incest and aggravated rape are punishable by life in prison.
