Louisiana Teacher Accused of Sex with Student, 17

(Thibodaux, Louisiana) A 25-year-old math teacher at Thibodaux High School, Celeste Bergeron, has been accused of engaging in sexual contact with a 17-year-old student.

Bergeron has been charged with misdemeanor prohibited sexual conduct between an educator and a student.

Detectives began their investigation on Monday, the release states, after being alerted to the possible contact between Bergeron and a student. Through the course of that investigation, authorities said that Bergeron and the student -- whose identity and gender are not being released -- "engaged in sexual activity on at least two occasions." The pair also "exchanged numerous private messages" on social media, authorities said.

Bergeron had been placed on leave at the start of the investigation. She met with detectives on Wednesday and, according to authorities, admitted to having sexual contact with the student.
