IRS Scam
Voicemail message received by many:
"Hello, we have been trying to reach you. This call is officially a final notice from IRS, Internal Revenue Services. The reason of this call is to inform you the IRS is filing lawsuit against you. To get more information about this case file, please call immediately our department number 360-362-4730. I repeat, 360-362-4730."
According to 800Notes.com:
Total scam. Originates in either India or Pakistan. DO NOT CALL THEM BACK. The Indian/Pakistani scammer/extortinoists become very abusive when they find their scams are not working.
IRS does not file lawsuits. Nor does it cold-call. Court action, if any is handled by the DOJ and all parties are entitled to legal assistance if it is a criminal matter.
But--tax disputes are for the most part civil matters. 90% of all IRS tax disputes are settled administratively. IRS has absolutely no authority to call on local law enforcement for anything. Local law is never involved in IRS tax disputes. IRS has no powers of arrest.
If LE [law enforcement] is necessary, US Marshals do the job. IRS does not cold call anyone and ask for money.
Thanks, CWG40
