Teacher and Students and Dope and Liquor

(Bossier City, Louisiana) A 35-year-old teacher at Elm Grove Middle School, Stephenie Simmons, was arrested this past week for allegedly providing alcohol to students and smoking marijuana with them. The students were 14 through 17 years old.

Simmons faces eight counts of unlawful purchase of alcoholic beverages on behalf of persons under 21 and six counts of contributing to the delinquency of a juvenile.
A complaint on March 29 led to an investigation which was conducted by Capt. Danny Dison, the Bossier Parish schools director of security, Bossier sheriff’s spokesman Ed Baswell said.

Simmons was placed on administrative leave the next day, pending the outcome of the investigation, Baswell said.

Dison's investigation showed Simmons consumed marijuana in the company of 15- and 16-year-olds in summer 2006 at a house on Oriole Street in Bossier City, Baswell said.

The investigation also determined that Simmons, who teaches seventh-graders and had eight years of experience, had on several occasions, purchased and provided alcoholic beverages to numerous juveniles ranging in age from 14 to 17, Baswell said.
Simmons was booked into the Bossier Maximum Security Facility. Also, she has resigned her teaching position.
UK: Home Raids to Recover Parking Debt

The United Kingdom continues its march toward police-state socialism.
The UK parliament is considering legislation that would authorize bailiffs to break into the homes of motorists accused of not paying parking tickets. Under legislation currently making its way through the House of Commons, bailiffs would seize items out of the home in order to pay off the amount owed in tickets, plus hefty fees. Any homeowner that attempting (sic) to stop the bailiff would face up to a year in prison.
Consequently, an unpaid parking ticket would function as a warrant to break down your door and take your property. I envision the typical scenario would play out as follows:
1) Police goons knock on the door and if it's not opened smartly or nobody is home, they break in.

2) Police goons immediately perform a search for wallets, pocketbooks, coin purses and cookie jars for cash sufficient to pay whatever is owed plus hefty fees.

3) If sufficient cash is not found, police will then look around the home to find and confiscate articles of property which, based upon an on-the-spot valuation by a police officer, would produce enough money to cover the debt plus hefty fees.

4) Police goons depart with money and/or valuables confiscated during the debt collection operation, likely leaving behind a ransacked home with a broken front door.
By the way, the police are prohibited from taking your household pets or seeing-eye dog, if you are blind. Also, it's not clear what happens if the police goons find evidence of a separate violation.

And while they consider forcefully breaking into homes, Brits continue to berate the U.S. for monitoring international phone calls involving terror suspects as an unacceptable invasion of privacy. Crikey!

Catholic Church Soon in Qatar

Frankly, I wouldn't have predicted this development from ever occurring.
After fourteen centuries without a place of worship, the Catholic Church in Qatar, a majority Muslim country, will soon have its first parish in the capital of Doha, which will be dedicated to Our Lady of the Rosary.

Catholics in Qatar, many of whom are migrants who have come to the country seeking work, have been pooling their donations for the church's construction.

Bishop Paul Hinder, Apostolic Vicar of Arabia and ordinary for the faithful in Qatar, United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Oman, Yemen, and Saudi Arabia, is looking after the development of the project.
The followers of the religion of peace will have the opportunity to demonstrate their dedication to tolerance and diversity. Who knows? Maybe next we'll see bingo.

To be realistic though, I'd lay odds on trouble.

Girl Accused of Sex with Boy

(River Falls, Wisconsin) In all candor, I can't explain this story. It would be nice to know who complained.
A 17-year-old River Falls girl has been charged with sexual assault of her 15-year-old boyfriend.

Tiffany Ann Neisius, 17, 1450 S. Wasson Lane, Apt. 75, River Falls, is charged with one count of second degree sexual assault of child. She is scheduled to make her first court appearance at 10 a.m. Monday, April 30.
The mother of the, uh, victim said she knew they were having sex but didn't approve or condone it.

Principal - Teacher Sex Video

(Cook County, Illinois) Police are in a dilemma trying to figure out who has been victimized after a sex video surfaced which showed a school principal in his office doing the prohibited nasty with a teacher and a teacher's aide.

From SunTimes.com:
Sandridge Elementary Principal Leroy Coleman resigned, citing health problems, and teacher Janet Loften resigned, citing a family illness, after school officials confronted them about their activities in a 2 1/2-hour DVD that surfaced this week.

The video, apparently made with a camera hidden in the ceiling of Coleman's office, captures a mostly clothed couple in a variety of positions and in an assortment of sexual acts, including some at the edge of a desk covered with carefully stacked papers. A second woman also appears on the video separately with Coleman, according to officials who saw the DVD.
The teacher's aide wasn't identified, however, she quit her job on Friday without giving an explanation.
John Izzo, attorney for Sandridge School District 172, noted that the sex romps were recorded in December and January, but the DVD didn't start to appear in mailboxes of the media and parents until Wednesday.
Since there was a delay between production of the video and the release, it's believed by some that the person who made and distributed the DVD is attempting to influence the outcome of a contentious school board election next Tuesday. In other words, the video is the result of political shenanigans.

Regarding the boffers, there are likely some moral turpitude provisions in the employment contracts of the educators that were violated and, on that basis, termination of employment could be justified. Sex romps are surely not in anyone's job description. However, since the performers involved have already quit their jobs, it's not clear whether any other consequences will be forthcoming.

[Update 04/17/07]

According to another report, the teacher's aide is named Anjayla Reed. Also, teacher Janet Loften has been identified as 41-year-old Janet Lofton. It's not clear which spelling is correct.

Meanwhile, Principal Coleman wants to see prosecution of the individuals who took the video.
"Without denigrating my wrongdoing and my acceptance of responsibility, the persons who invaded my privacy need to be held accountable," Coleman said. "It is not for me to comment on the motivation of the persons who knew or should have known of the placement of the video camera on District 172 property. While my actions have hurt my wife, their actions have hurt my family, friends and a lifetime of educating children."
With Coleman's resignation, Sandridge will have a substitute principal for the rest of the school year.
Is This Evil, or What?

(Austin, Texas) An unknown person poured hydrochloric acid on a playground slide in a public park resulting in a two-year-old girl suffering chemical burns.

I consider this to be an example of a person with truly evil intentions. Somebody wanted to harm small children. Hopefully, the police will beat the hell out of will find the person responsible.
Teacher Accused of Immorality with Girl

(Tenino, Washington) A 38-year-old teacher at Tenino High School, Dawn Marie Welter, has been accused of engaging in an illicit relationship with a 16-year-old girl.

Welter, a divorced mother of three, faces three counts of communication with a minor for immoral purposes. According to Lewis County Prosecutor Mike Golden, Welter has the weekend to surrender herself to the police.
The investigation started in Thurston County but moved to Lewis County where Welter and the student both lived and where the crimes allegedly happened.

In early March, the Tenino Police Department called the Thurston County Sheriff's Department to help investigate allegations that Welter had "inappropriate contact" with the student. Their investigation unearthed MySpace.com messages, emails and phone calls that indicated Welter and the female student have been engaged in an alleged relationship since January.
According to court papers, Tenino High School Assistant Principal Gary Martin reported that "Dawn Welter and (the girl) had been seen alone together in Dawn Welter's classroom with the lights off and the door locked." That may be hard to explain.

Meanwhile, it's possible that a child rape charge will be filed in coastal Pacific County for an alleged overnight episode in a South Bend hotel room.

Welter has been placed on administrative leave by the Tenino School District.

[Update 08/14/07]

Welter sentenced.
Catholic School Teacher and Boy

(Tucson, Arizona) A 24-year-old former teacher at Salpointe Catholic High School, Rebecca Lee Kelley, has been indicted for allegedly engaging in sexual activity with a 17-year-old male student.

At her arraignment yesterday, Kelley pleaded not guilty. She faces four counts of sexual conduct with a minor under the age of 18, a Class 6 felony. Each count carries a possible punishment of two years in prison.

A Pima County Superior Court appearance is scheduled for June 1st.

[Update 10/15/07]

Kelley pleads guilty.

Cash Bonanza in Alien Drug Bust

(Seattle, Washington) Earlier this week, it was reported that illegal alien Javier Sanchez-Vasquez, 27, and five confederates in a drug trafficking ring were arrested by Drug Enforcement Administration and Snohomish Regional Drug Task Force agents. At the time, 23 pounds of heroin, 33 pounds of cocaine and approximately $260,000 in cash were seized.

In the latest development, agents discovered secret compartments in the traffickers' vehicles which contained more than $600,000 in cash bringing the total money seized to more than $880,000. And, the secret compartments were quite innovative.
While searching a 1995 Ford Explorer on Tuesday, agents discovered compartments built into the front seats of the vehicle. Opening the compartments required simultaneously pressing on the brakes and pushing a button underneath the floorboard matting on the driver's side of the car.
I would guess that the agents didn't figure out the system until after they dismantled the entire vehicle. However, as a result of finding secret compartments, agents are now searching vehicles with a Vacis X-ray machine which is normally employed in cargo container inspections.

Although few people would likely doubt the significance of the drug bust in light of the quantity and funds involved, it has been largely unnoticed by the mainstream media (MSM). Logically, the bust itself has to be viewed as an indication of an extensive and sophisticated trafficking network from Mexico to the Pacific Northwest operated by illegal aliens. Crimping this drug pipeline is newsworthy particularly because television news frequently reports on the widespread addiction problems in Washington and Oregon. In fact, Portland has a reputation as a magnet for heroin addicts.

Then consider that somewhere along the U.S.-Mexico border, the drugs and money have to cross with heavy packages going in both directions. And on both ends of the trafficking pipeline are foreign nationals, presumably Mexican. This means that the entire criminal enterprise is run by foreigners, as opposed to American crooks receiving drugs from outside the country and operating a distribution system. The only involvement of American citizens in this particular drug operation is as hapless end-users, the addicts.

One must realize that the usual arguments for allowing illegal aliens into the U.S. do not apply to the people running the subject drug ring. They aren't hard-working, law-abiding, tax-paying families trying to make better lives for themselves and their children. They aren't foreigners lured by big business to come and do jobs American citizens shun. And surely they aren't foreigners seeking freedom, democracy, opportunity and a path to U.S. citizenship. They are simply criminal foreign drug dealers running an organization in the U.S.

I suggest that the subject drug enterprise wouldn't exist if the border were secure. I would also suggest that the elite media have been less than responsible in not giving this story, along with other illegal alien trafficking stories, greater exposure.

Drug-Resistant Gonorrhea

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has released data indicating a worrisome increase in cases of drug-resistant gonorrhea among sexually-active people of both genders at all ages. Officials are recommending that doctors treat the infections with a new class of antibiotics.

A estimated 700,000 new cases of gonorrhea occur each year and, over time, the disease has become resistant to several classes of antibiotics. Specifically, the bacteria have become tolerant to treatment with sulfa, penicillin, tetracyclines and, now, fluoroquinolones. As a result, doctors are being asked to prescribe drugs in the cephalosporin class, the last line of defense against the infection.

Ominously, there are no new antibiotics for gonorrhea in the pharmaceutical pipeline.
Dog Shot and Man Killed

(Phoenix, Arizona) Someone shot a bulldog and left him for dead in a desert area of Maricopa County outside Phoenix. The dog is tough, he took two slugs and survived. A $5,000 reward is offered for information leading to the arrest of the shooter.

Meanwhile, in nearby Mesa, AZ, cold case police officers are seeking a lead in the killing of David Elbert Reed, 52, who was discovered dead in his truck on October 16, 2005. A $1,000 reward is offered for information leading to the arrest of the shooter.

Doing the math, shooting a dog is five times more outrageous than shooting a man.

Ohio Woman Accused of Sex with Boy

(St. Clairsville, Ohio) A 31-year-old woman from western Belmont County, Christine Stephen, was arraigned yesterday for engaging in sex with a teenage boy. Stephen faces one count of sexual conduct with a minor.

She has been booked and released on a personal recognizance bond. (H/T Don Morgenstern)
Illegal Alien Had 4 DWIs Before Deadly Crash

(Antioch, California) Yes, he had four drunken-driving convictions plus a narcotics conviction before his latest encounter with law enforcement.
Jose Pena, 26, was booked into the Solano County Jail after he was released from John Muir Medical Center, a week after the March 31 death of Kent Boone, 33, in a head-on crash on Highway 12 in Solano County.

Pena, who the CHP alleged had two pounds of crystal methamphetamine in the Ford Expedition he was driving, crossed a double-yellow line at an estimated 90 mph to pass another vehicle when he hit Boone's Ford F-350 pickup truck.

Pena was impaired by alcohol and drugs when the crash occurred, had four prior drunken-driving convictions under an alias and a narcotics conviction, the CHP said. Officers searched his Fairfield residence and confiscated more drugs and cash.
Immigration and Customs Enforcement authorities have placed an immigration hold on Pena.

With five significant convictions on the rap sheet of a 26-year-old, one would imagine that Pena would still be in jail or, at least, deported. That would seem logical. Unfortunately, when it comes to illegal aliens, one must not imagine the logical. One must imagine the illogical.

Foot-Washers for Muslim Students

(Minneapolis, Minnesota) What the hell is wrong with Minnesota? It seems you can't take a deep breath without hearing about some new effort to bend over for Islam. And, last I heard, the melodramas in which Muslim taxi drivers and retail cashiers demand to dictate business practices still haven't been resolved.

In the latest bizarre move, Minneapolis Community and Technical College President Phil Davis (don't forget this guy's name) has decided to install foot-washing facilities, at taxpayer expense, for Muslim students so their feet will be clean during the regular prayer sessions.

Now, I wouldn't particularly care about President Phil's action if it were not for the fact that he has been a crusader to make sure that all acknowledgment and recognition of Christianity and Judaism are eradicated from the campus of Minneapolis Community and Technical College. So, you tell me, isn't this a case of one religion being promoted while others are suppressed?

Interestingly, local Muslim leaders stated that foot-washing is not mandatory under the circumstances but President Phil doesn't care whether it's required or not. He's going to do it for "interested students."
"It's like when someone comes to your home, you want to be hospitable."
Naturally, one would expect that President Phil's home bathroom has been remodeled with foot-washing facilities for interested guests. Frankly, I don't think so. But, wait, he spews more manure.
"The foot-washing facilities are not about religion, they are about customer service and public safety," he says. He sees no significant difference between using public funds to construct prayer-related facilities for Muslim students and the cafeteria's provision of a fish option for Christian students during Lent.
Three things are apparent to me. One is that President Phil Davis has adopted a bend-over for Islam management philosophy. Two is that President Phil is a politically correct leftist ideologue of the highest order who should be flushed from any position in academia. And, lastly, rational adult Americans in Minnesota are going to have to do the flushing.

One last note, even the school's director of legal affairs, Dianna Cusick, says that promoting one religion over another is unconstitutional. President Phil Davis, however, isn't listening.

Registered Rapist Repeats

(Ozark, Alabama) In 1993, Kent Stewart was convicted of violently raping an elderly woman and sentenced to prison. In 2003, Stewart was released with the requirement to register as a sex offender.

Yesterday, 43-year-old Stewart was arrested for allegedly abducting and raping a 10-year-old girl. According to Ozark Police Chief Tony Spivey:
[T]he girl was playing at a playground in her apartment complex around 5:30 p.m. Tuesday when Stewart approached her and offered to pay her $2 to help him move a chair. She refused and Stewart grabbed her and took her into his home.

Spivey said the girl didn't resist because she may have been threatened. Spivey said Stewart then undressed the girl and raped her. He then released her and she ran home. The girl made it to her home, about 200 yards away, and identified Stewart to her mother, who called the police.
The girl was taken to the hospital, treated and released. U.S. Marshals assisted in Stewart's arrest when he was found hiding in the attic of a house adjacent to his residence. Stewart has been charged with kidnapping and rape.

It's seems apparent that Stewart wasn't properly rehabilitated while doing his 1993-2003 stint in prison. Imagine that. In all candor, if one believes as I do, efforts to rehabilitate predatory sex offenders are a waste of time and money.
Female Dance Teacher, Boy, Tequila, Cha Cha Cha!

(Joliet, Illinois) On Tuesday, a 23-year-old dance teacher, Monica Tai, pleaded guilty to engaging in sex with a male student. Tai faces a possible seven years in prison. Will County Judge Dan Rozak will announce the actual punishment for the conviction of aggravated sexual abuse at sentencing.

The victim's mother, Laura Diaz, described the circumstances of the sexual episode that Tai admitted having with her son.
On the night of the party, Tai gave her son a drink laced with tequila, Diaz said. The boy drank some and soon felt sick. Tai offered to take him home but instead stopped at a Crest Hill parking lot, and they had sex, Diaz said.

The mother's story was collaborated (sic) in court Tuesday when Will County Assistant State's Attorney John Connor explained the case to the judge. The state had worked out a deal with Tai and Eric Mitchell, her lawyer, Connor said. In exchange for her guilty plea, Connor said Tai should be sentenced to 30 months probation and be required to register as a sex offender. She cannot drink alcohol or use the Internet while on probation, among other restrictions, he added.

"Are you pleading guilty freely and voluntarily?" Rozak asked Tai.

"Yes," she said.
A June 19th sentencing date has been scheduled.

[Update 07/31/07]

Florida Woman Gets Prison for Sex Crimes

(Crystal River, Florida) In September 2005, a 31-year-old mother of two, Sherry Nicole Fowler, was arrested for engaging in drug-induced sex with a 14-year-old Citrus County girl and showing her pornography.

Also accused was Fowler's former boyfriend, Michael Lane, 30, who gave the girl methamphetamine and ecstasy. Both Fowler and Lane were charged with lewd and lascivious conduct, showing obscene material to a minor and contributing to the delinquency of a minor. Lane's case remains to be decided.

This week, Fowler was sentenced to seven years in prison in accordance with a plea deal. She will also serve two years drug and sexual offender probation after release from prison. Deborah Whitley, Fowler's mother, asked Judge Ric Howard to show mercy because her daughter was a good mother and had never been in trouble before.

Assistant State Attorney Deborah Hunt then asked, "Who was taking care of her children in the three days she was getting high and having sexual relations with a minor?" Defense attorney Dale Merrill said Fowler was under the influence of Lane and that women do dumb things for men all the time.

In the end, Fowler apologized and expressed regret. Judge Howard then imposed the sentence and told Fowler, "I sincerely hope that nobody ever does this to your children."
Lawyer Wants $11,000 per Hour

(Ft. Lauderdale, Florida) If you have ever wondered how some lawyers become super wealthy, check out this story.
Attorney Willie Gary asked Circuit Court Judge Leroy Moe to approve at least $11,000 an hour, for a total of $24.3 million, from Motorola for work he did on a lawsuit against the company.
So, Gary represented Motorola's adversary in a trial that ended with a hung jury and he wants Motorola to pay him $11,000 for each of about 2,200 hours he worked on the case. Judge Moe will decide today.

If Judge Moe rules in favor of Gary, Motorola said it will appeal. If so, Motorola can likely expect the case to be heard by Judge Moe's colleagues, Judge Larry and Judge Curly.

[Update 04/20/07]

Judge Moe ruled in favor of attorney Willie Gary against Motorola. Moe did not, however, give Gary all that he wanted.
Moe decided on $20 million in fees and $2.9 million in costs. That would put the fee for Gary and his firm at about $1,050 per hour.
Well, it's not $11,000 per hour but a nice rate nonetheless.

Mom Gets Prison for Sex with Boy

(Easton, Pennsylvania) In February, mom of teens Nancy Smith, 47, pleaded guilty to charges related to engaging in a years-long sexual relationship with a boy, starting when he was age 14. Smith's son introduced the 14-year-old to his mother who started a sexual relationship in 2001. By 2004, the boy was also having a sexual relationship with Smith's teen daughter, ultimately getting her pregnant.

When Nancy Smith discovered her daughter was pregnant, she called the authorities and essentially revealed to the entire civilized world that she was ignorant of her culpability as a child molester. Police refused to act on the tip since there was less than four-years difference in ages between him and the girl, however, the investigation revealed that Smith had also been having sex with the boy. Imagine that. In April 2006, Smith was arrested.

Today, Smith was sentenced by Judge Paula A. Roscioli to 26 to 90 months in state prison and fined $2,000. Smith put on a display of contrition.
Choking back tears throughout the proceeding, Smith made several attempts to explain how the affair unfolded, at one point taking a long pause to blow her nose and take a sip of water.

"Your honor, I am truly, truly sorry. At the time I was so blinded by what was going on I couldn't see anything," Smith explained. "I couldn't see around me. All I could see was him."

A sexuality counselor who evaluated Smith said she posed a medium risk to re-offend. The counselor also said Smith was amenable to treatment but continues to see herself as the victim and not the boy.

Roscioli said that in the evaluation, Smith described the boy as "extremely mature for his age," and told the counselor he was "14 going on 40."

"You still don't get it," Roscioli said. "The fact that you described the victim as '14 going on 40' tells me you still don't get it."
In addition to prison, Smith's criminal behavior caused her to lose her job, her home and, presumably, her husband since they have separated. The long-term harm to the victim and the Smith family is incalculable.
Don Imus and Rutgers Women's Basketball Players

Probably within fifteen minutes of Don Imus' remark about "nappy-headed hos" on the Rutgers women's basketball team, the issue became political.

How else could you explain the putative emotional, mental and physical pain expressed by the Rutgers coach, C. Vivian Stringer, at an hour-long news conference yesterday? For crying out loud, they were called a name. A name or something similar that their friends and acquaintances most likely have used. The Rutgers team members weren't marched to a slave labor camp, didn't endure the Holocaust, weren't held hostage by the Iranians for two weeks, and they didn't watch as their family members died in the World Trade Center. They were called a name.

So, let's recap the actual harm done to the Rutgers team.
Emotional - These women play in a dynamic, highly-competitive sport which guarantees each player experiences highs and lows of emotion throughout the season. The chatter on the court alone would likely not be fit for polite society and I must assume that players are acclimated to shrug off mere name-calling.

Mental - It's difficult to create a circumstance whereby college students, much less high-profile athletes, could be so deluded that the existence of bigotry and bigoted speech escaped them. If they have nightmares, I'd suggest they would be about the agony of a missed shot rather than what one radio personality says. The players would necessarily be immune to any arbitrary set of words spoken after having listened to barking coaches, screaming fans, pissed-off teammates and antagonists on opposing teams.

Physical - Give me a break. What physical pain could Don Imus have caused. Although his image is arguably retch-worthy, it's inconceivable that mere words would create physical pain.
Concluding simply, I believe the extreme pain caused by Imus' remarks is fantasy. The women playing basketball for Rutgers are made of much stronger stuff than they are credited with.

Don't mistake my words as a defense of Don Imus' comments. I don't particularly like most of what he says, the latest remarks included. However, he has the right to say anything his heart desires. Imus also must realize that he has to suffer the consequences of his statements and expect the worst if he offends the more equal segments in society.
Illegal Alien Arrested for Child Rape

(Castle Rock, Colorado) A 22-year-old Mexican citizen who is illegally in the U.S., Benito Martinez, was arrested last night for raping an 11-year-old girl in Syracuse, Utah. Martinez was booked into the Douglas County (CO) Jail to await extradition to Utah to face felony charges.

According to Lt. Tracy Jensen of the Syracuse police, Martinez rented a room in the house where five different illegal alien families live.
The sexual attack happened early Saturday morning. Police said Martinez left his room and forced his way into the eleven year old girl's room.

"The rooms are next to each other," said Lt. Jensen "They are locked, the bedrooms, the doors."

But according to court documents, Martinez used a coin to unlock the door and go inside the girl's bedroom. Within minutes, Martinez was sexually attacking the little girl. Court documents said the little girl screamed and ran into the bedroom.

"One of the family members interrupted it and told him that she was going to call police," he said. "Prior to us arriving, he fled the scene."
Asked if the police were bothered by the fact that the victim and her family are illegal, Lt. Jensen said they are not immigration officials.
PBS Suppresses Film on Islamic Extremism

The Public Broadcasting Service (PBS) has suppressed a planned documentary on Islamic extremism which shows the struggle between moderate Muslims and the radical, kill-all-infidels, Islamists.

Featured in the film is Dr. M. Zuhdi Jasser of the American Islamic Forum for Democracy, known for speaking out against the "six imams" of terrorist impersonation notoriety. Dr. Jasser stated that the suppression of the film is an example of how the government is facilitating Islamist extremism.

Via Bluto at The Jawa Report, one source claims the film is being suppressed because PBS executives couldn't bring themselves to recognize the difference between moderate and radical Muslims. Obviously, PBS is exercising considerable editorial control over productions which may specifically offend the Islamists.

Via Chad at In The Bullpen, the maker of the film, Martyn Burke, weighs in.
Martyn Burke says that the Public Broadcasting Service and project managers at station WETA in Washington, D.C., excluded his documentary, Islam vs. Islamists, from the series America at a Crossroads after he refused to fire two co-producers affiliated with a conservative think tank.

"I was ordered to fire my two partners (who brought me into this project) on political grounds," Burke said in a complaint letter to PBS and the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, which supplied funds for the films.

Burke wrote that his documentary depicts the plight of moderate Muslims who are silenced by Islamic extremists, adding, "Now it appears to be PBS and CPB who are silencing them."
In their defense, WETA and PBS officials contend there simply wasn't room on the broadcast schedule. One official said the film has a chance of being aired in the future but "they need to work on it."

Meanwhile, allegations of political string-pulling have surfaced with PBS producer Leo Eaton being criticized for alleged family ties to a British Islamist group and wanting to change the entire context of the film.

Let's not forget that American tax dollars are funding the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB) and the Public Broadcasting Service (PBS). Frankly, both appear to have outlived their usefulness as public projects.

NJ Boys Teacher Accused of Sex Crimes

(Newark, New Jersey) A 31-year-old English teacher at Newark Boys Chorus School, Tracy Booth, was arrested yesterday for allegedly engaging in sex at her home and at a hotel with a 13-year-old boy.

The state Division of Youth and Family Services received an anonymous tip and alerted the authorities.

Booth has been charged with aggravated sexual assault and child endangerment. According to the prosecutor's office, additional charges may be forthcoming.

Booth was booked into custody with bond set at $200,000.

Alien Drug Ring Busted

(Seattle, Washington) Six men were arrested early yesterday during raids on a heroin and cocaine distribution ring operating in King and Snohomish Counties. About $260,000 in cash, 23 pounds of heroin and 33 pounds of cocaine were seized by authorities.

Javier Sanchez-Vasquez, 27, leader of the organization which smuggled the drugs from Mexico, was indicted along with Jose Vasquez-Contreras, 20; Gabriel Ramirez Castro, 30; Macrino Acevedo-Cuevas, 26; and Rodolfo Navarro-Gomez, 27. According to U.S. Attorney Adam Cornell, none of the five men above are U.S. citizens. Although aliens, it's presently not known if they are legally in the U.S. A sixth man, Dion Brady Lykins, was charged in a complaint.

Drug Enforcement Administration and Snohomish Regional Drug Task Force agents conducted the law enforcement operation.

Death Threat

A radical Muslim website has issued a fatwa against Rusty Shackleford and The Jawa Report. Based upon the explanation of the fatwa, it's clearly a death threat. Several other sites are also listed including LGF, JihadWatch and Atlas Shrugs.

How appropriate. This week, death threats, next week, taxes.
Sour Talk

Some readers may recall the failed attempt by the Fox Broadcasting Company in 1993 to put Chevy Chase on late-night television. As a talk-show host, Chase was terrible and The Chevy Chase Show was canceled after five painful weeks.

Unfortunately, the most memorable, and agonizing, parts of the show were the last-ditch efforts by the network to save it from cancellation. On program after program, high-profile celebrities were paraded on to "discuss" how wonderful the guy Chevy Chase is.

As an example, I recall one maudlin segment with Goldie Hawn congratulating Chase on his creativity and his sense of humor while I distinctly heard someone cough in the distant back of the live audience. Nobody enjoyed the show, not even live-audience super-fans of Chase.

So much for Bad Memories Lane and, frankly, I'd forgotten about it until this morning. Cue up the sentimental praise for Chevy Chase except change the name to Don Imus.

For those who don't know, Don Imus shot off his irreverent mouth and called the Rutgers University women's basketball players offensive names. As a result, some people are calling for his head to roll. He's already been given a two-week suspension by MSNBC. Others want him fired -- now.

So, what's Imus doing? On this morning's show, Imus seems to be interviewing everybody who has ever had a nice thing to say about him. I don't believe that's a large demographic but Imus found enough to keep the program full of compliments for himself.

Yes, Don, you're great. Yes, Don, you're generous. Don, you're a wonderful guy. Don, you've done a lot for the kids. Yes, you helped those cancer patients, Don. Nobody has contributed as much as you, Don. Don. Don. Don. Don. Yadda-yadda-yadda.

Shades of close-to-cancellation Chevy Chase, I think.
Defense: Rape Murder Was Consensual

(Oakland, California) Currently on trial, 54-year-old death row inmate, Robert Rhoades, is accused of the rape and murder of an 18-year-old Arroyo High School student, Julie Connell, in 1984. Days after the alleged rape and murder, investigators found Connell's body tied with twine and with the throat slashed. Rhoades' semen was found in Connell's vagina.

Defense attorney Gene Peretti stated that Rhoades did not rape Connell. Instead, they had consensual sex. Peretti didn't elaborate. I'd suggest that it was because he was hallucinating. The jurors will decide.

Rhoades is already on death row for murdering an 8-year-old boy in 1996.
Scout Leader Guilty of 926 Counts of Child Sex Abuse

(Oil City, Pennsylvania) A 41-year-old former Cub Scout leader, Thomas Fox, pleaded guilty yesterday to 926 counts of child sexual abuse. Fox admitted to fondling and taking pornographic photos of boys in his troop.

Fox is scheduled to be sentenced in July and, according to the plea agreement, he should receive at least 9 years in prison. Doing the math, that's less than a year for every 100 counts of child sex abuse.

Fox will also likely be ordered to register as a sexual predator. Note that Fox may receive harsher punishment. It's up to Judge H. William White to decide.
Fan Seeks Pardon for Jim Morrison

(Tallahassee, Florida) A native Floridian, the lead singer for The Doors, Jim Morrison, died of heart failure in Paris in 1971, however, his music and his fans live on. And one fan, Dave Diamond, who was merely a toddler when Morrison died wants Florida Gov. Charlie Crist to grant the departed rock star a pardon for a conviction of public indecency.

Okay, fine. But, sheesh! Some people sure seem to have a lot of time on their hands.
Louisiana Teacher Accused of Sex with Girl

(Baton Rouge, Louisiana) A 23-year-old science teacher at Tara High School, Jamie Lynn Armstrong, was arrested last week for allegedly engaging in sexual relations with a 16-year-old female student.

According to an affidavit of probable cause, Armstrong had sex with the girl on at least three occasions, one of which occurred at the school. She has been placed on paid administrative leave as the school investigates.

Last Thursday, Armstrong was booked into Parish Prison on counts felony carnal knowledge of a juvenile and contributing to the delinquency of a juvenile. On Friday, she was released on $20,000 bond.

It's noteworthy that Armstrong is not an athletics coach which, arguably, is often the case when a teacher allegedly lesbianizes a student.

[Update 04/20/07]

Armstrong fired from her teaching position.

Illegal Gets Prison in DUI Deaths

(Nashville, Tennessee) A 29-year-old illegal alien, Gustavo Garcia Reyes, was sentenced to 25 years in prison for causing two deaths in a crash while driving drunk. He must serve at least seven and one-half years prior to be eligible for parole.

Gustavo Garcia Reyes had been arrested at least 14 times before he crashed and killed Sean and Donna Wilson last June. Six of the previous arrests were for DUI.

Sickening!
Open Border Math

Out of the Arizona Republic comes this analysis of illegal alien crime statistics.
No one knows the size of the undocumented-immigrant population in Arizona, and the distinctions between immigrants and illegal immigrants, particularly of Mexican origin, are blurred in many counts.

[ ... ]

But they suggest that neither Mexican nationals nor undocumented immigrants are over-represented in felony prosecutions or incarcerated disproportionately.
In other words, nobody knows how many foreign nationals are in Arizona and nobody knows how many are illegal aliens, therefore it's concluded that, within the unknown population of illegal aliens, crimes are committed at a rate that is proportional to the entire population.

Huh?

I'd suggest that one statistic is known regarding crime by illegal aliens. Since all of them entered the United States illegally, 100 percent have committed crimes. On second thought, here's another stat. If the border were secure, the number of illegal aliens committing crimes in the U.S. would trend toward zero.
Woman Indicted for Rape of Boy

(Dayton, Tennessee) A 28-year-old Spring City woman, Theresa Holloway, was arrested last week for allegedly raping a 10-year-old boy. The boy's mother alerted the police.

Last Monday, a Rhea County grand jury indicted Holloway on five felony counts of rape of a child. She was booked into custody on Wednesday and released on $20,000 bond.
Sacked Stew Admits Hooker History

Remember Lisa Robertson? She is the former Qantas flight attendant who was vaulted into international celebrityhood after having amazing sex in an airplane at 30,000 feet with Hollywood actor Ralph Fiennes.

Well, 38-year-old Robertson, who was fired after her tropospheric tryst and bitterly blames jealously as the reason she was exposed by her fellow flight attendants, is back in the news. She has announced that her high-mileage physique, clad in lingerie, will appear soon in a men's magazine. She has also admitted to her former and, apparently, enjoyable vocation as a prostitute.
In an interview published in Zoo Weekly's May edition, accompanied by a six-page photo spread, Robertson said she enjoyed being paid for sex before she became a flight attendant.

"It's a lot different to what people actually think. Sometimes I'd think I should be paying them, there's some hotties coming in, some really nice people," she told the magazine.
Robertson is also quoted as saying she is interested in making an adult film.

Mom Arrested for Brainwashing Child

(Honolulu, Hawaii) This is the first case I've seen where "brainwashing" is considered criminal child endangerment.
Police arrested a Waikiki woman in a child endangerment case for allegedly "brainwashing" her son against his father.

Police said the 47-year-old woman, who is divorcing her husband, made numerous false reports against her husband while "brainwashing" their 10-year-old son into thinking that the husband would hurt them.
If brainwashing is truly a crime, I believe there are a few teachers deserving of prosecution. How else could you explain young people in school and graduating with a seething hatred for America?
California Teacher Accused of Sex with Boy

(Roseville, California) A 28-year-old teacher at Silverado Middle School, Kelly Christine Spaich, was arrested Friday for allegedly engaging in a six-month sexual relationship with a 16-year-old former student.

An unnamed third party alerted authorities to the alleged relationship. Investigators interviewed the boy and determined that the relationship was not forced.

Spaich has been charged with unlawful sexual intercourse with a minor. She was booked and released on $150,000 bail.

[Update 07/03/07]

Spaich guilty.
Talking CCTV

The British government announced this week that closed-circuit television operators will be able to shout at vandals and litterbugs. Loudspeakers attached to CCTV surveillance cameras in a pilot program were deemed a success, therefore, more camera locations will be fitted. A total of 4.2 million camera locations are under consideration. Loudspeaker manufacturers were unavailable for comment presumably because all senior officers are out buying boats.

No information has been disclosed on plans to install laser guns along with the loudspeakers.

On the road to serfdom, Brits are cautioned not to drop any candy wrappers or expect to hear, "Hey you with the funny hat! Pick that up!"

Illegal Alien Charged with Manslaughter

(Los Angeles, California) A 24-year-old Mexican national, Hector Velazquez-Nava, has been charged with vehicular manslaughter for driving drunk and causing a crash which resulted in the deaths of two people.

On Wednesday, Velazquez-Nava allegedly steered his sport utility vehicle into the wrong lane of Pacific Coast Highway in Pacific Palisades, striking the sedan of filmmaker Bob Clark, 67, head-on. Both the filmmaker and his son, 22-year-old Ariel Hanrath-Clark, died.

Velazquez-Nava was booked into the LA County Jail with bail set at $100,000. The U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency has placed a deportation hold on Velazquez-Nava awaiting adjudication of local charges.

Bob Clark was influential in the film community. He directed "A Christmas Story" and was involved in the "Porky's" series of films as writer, director and producer.

One question that needs to be answered is whether Velazquez-Nava had been arrested before. If so, someone may have to do some 'splainin' why he wasn't deported.

[Update 10/13/07]

In August, Velazquez-Nava pleaded no contest to two counts of gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated. Yesterday, Hector Velazquez-Nava was sentenced to six years in prison.
Woman Has Baby, Accused of Sex with Boy

(River Falls, Wisconsin) An 18-year-old local woman, Sarah Wallin, has been accused of sexual assault for allegedly engaging in sex with a 14-year-old boy. Wallin also recently gave birth to a child suspected to have been fathered by the boy.

River Falls Journal:
According to the criminal complaint, Wallin had sex with a then 14-year-old boy, in April 2006. She told River Falls police investigators she had sex with someone else other than the boy before then (who was older), but was extremely confident, even without paternity tests, the father of her daughter was the 14-year-old.

She also stated she didn't know the boy's exact age and didn't know this was a potential crime. The complaint also stated Wallin was very open, indicating she wanted to take care of the entire situation.

At the same time, she expressed a lot of fear because she didn't want to go to jail and leave her daughter alone.

When the boy was questioned, he admitted to having sex with Wallin only that one time and taking full responsibility for being the father of the baby.
Wallin didn't know that sex with a child is a crime. Really? I'm skeptical.

Woman Indicted for Sex with Boy

(College Station, Texas) Last January, 45-year-old local woman, Laura Lee Cole, was arrested for providing alcohol to boys between the ages of 13 and 15 and having sex with one of them. Cole was jailed with bond set at $230,000.

This week, Cole was indicted by a Brazos County grand jury on two counts of felony sexual assault. If convicted, the charges carry punishment of up to 20 years in prison.

From TheEagle.com:
She was arrested in January, after several boys between the ages of 13 and 15 said she had provided them with alcohol. Police recorded a phone conversation between her and a 13-year-old in which she told him not to tell about the alcohol purchase, court documents state.

Another boy, 14, later told a forensics interviewer about engaging in sexual acts with the woman and described several of her tattoos, according to documents.

Cole also was arrested for seven counts of purchasing and furnishing alcohol to a minor. Those charges are pending in misdemeanor court.
The scheduling of future court appearances was not reported.
Extreme Recycling

According to this source, the average human body after cremation yields sufficient products for recycling to manufacture 240 pencils. A chintzy inheritance, for sure. Not only that, but giving your beneficiaries pencils won't make them write. It's possible they'll just chew off the erasers.

Note that this option will perplex the global warming eco-cultists. To them, the recycling of the human body would carry enormous appeal but it would be countered by the high pucker alarms from learning their carbon footprints continue after their deaths.
The Restrained Dutch Soldiers

Color me not surprised by yesterday's NYT report on the respectful and restrained Dutch military contingent to the NATO Forces in Afghanistan. It's a given that the Dutch are exceedingly nice people. Unfortunately, as a defining attribute, niceness is somewhat out of place in a war.
[I]n Uruzgan Province, where the Taliban operate openly, a Dutch-led task force has mostly shunned combat. Its counterinsurgency tactics emphasize efforts to improve Afghan living conditions and self-governance, rather than hunting the Taliban's fighters. Bloodshed is out. Reconstruction, mentoring and diplomacy are in.

American military officials have expressed unease about the Dutch method, warning that if the Taliban are not kept under military pressure in Uruzgan, they will use the province as a haven and project their insurgency into neighboring provinces.
In response, the Dutch say their soldiers attempt to lure people away from the Taliban by working on reconstruction projects and by being civic-minded. In doing so, Dutch soldiers avoid going to hostile areas where they might be shot and, when attacked, they immediately retreat. The overall philosophy encourages respect and restraint, they say.

However, an Afghan interpreter working with the Dutch soldiers took issue with the passive approach.
“The Dutch, if the fight starts, they run inside their vehicles every time," said the interpreter, who asked that his name be withheld because he risked losing his job. "They say, 'We came for peace, not to fight.' And I say, 'If you don't fight, you cannot have peace in Afghanistan.' "
Frankly, I am not the first to question the viability of Marshall Plan tactics in a shooting war which appears to be exactly what the Dutch soldiers provide. Furthermore, their restrained approach gives the Dutch a reputation, attested to by headline coverage in the NYT, of possibly being the least desirable reinforcements to a unit in combat.

It's arguable but I would suggest that the Dutch soldiers and commanders possess an ingrained cultural passiveness held by the majority of the population of The Netherlands. Over the years, they have allowed a number of radical campaigns to succeed unchallenged. Initiatives for widespread drug usage, unlimited sexual behaviors and the adoption of appallingly brutal fourth-trimester abortions (Groningen Protocol) saw virtually no confrontation nor protest by the citizenry. And, now the country is being subjected to intense pressure from the Islamists while the voters exhibit respect and restraint. Consequently, it's no surprise that the Dutch soldiers attached to NATO would want to get along. Being non-confrontational appears to be genetic.

While recognizing the absolute necessity of helping rebuild worn-torn nations, it's customarily not the job of soldiers in the middle of a war. The first priority should be to defeat the enemy. That means returning fire when attacked as opposed to running away.

[Update 6:00 PM]

Additional clarification on the role and performance of Dutch troops has been provided from the Webmaster of the Uruzgan weblog, a Dutch-language source. Based upon the input, my familiarity with the subject is not complete. As a consequence, my contention that the Dutch are a generally passive population is not directly translatable to the attitudes of their military, although I continue to believe the contention is valid.
With due respect, both the NYT article and the additional comments on this particular site give a one-sided picture of the activities of the Dutch NATO forces in Uruzgan and elsewhere in Afghanistan. There's no mention of the use of Dutch heavy artillery, Apache attack helicopters or F-16 fighter-bombers, in support of Afghan, Dutch, British, Canadian or American troops.

There's also no mention of the activities of Dutch Special Forces (for some footage, see http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bnzA_8Juw94). Strangely enough, the New York Times reporter in question also fails to mention a fierce fire-fight he personally witnessed between the Dutch and the Taliban on April 4th in the location of Surkh-murghab, NE of Tarin Kowt, the provincial capital and home to the main Dutch base and US FOB Ripley.

And to put things in perspective, the Dutch Provincial Reconstruction Team in Uruzgan consists of 50-60 specialists; the remainder of the 1900+ 'Task Force Uruzgan' consists of a sizable Battle Group; an equally sizable Air Task Force; and some 200 additional personnel at ISAF's Regional Command South, including Major General Ton van Loon, who currently commands all NATO troops (including US units) in the six southern provinces.
The original NYTimes article failed to discuss the full scope of involvement and effectiveness of Dutch military in Afghanistan, thereby leaving the reader with an incomplete and unbalanced picture.
Pole Dancing Kits for Children

(Harrogate, England) The National Union of Teachers (NUT) is outraged that sexually-oriented products are being marketed to British children. At its annual conference yesterday, NUT officials cited products, including pole dancing kits, black/red lingerie and push-up bras for nine-year-olds, putting "inappropriate" pressure on children to emulate adult behavior.

Play Ball! Opening Day at Jacobs Field

Let's set the stage, sports fans. First, rummage around the house and find that snow globe somebody gave you as a Christmas present and, second, open the door to your freezer and stick your head in. Now, position the snow globe in front of your eyes, shake it vigorously and then stop and watch the flakes settle as you breath deeply of the frozen air.

Stage set, back to the action. As of 5:55 PM, the game is in a snow delay, the second, with groundskeepers hosing off the outfield. It's estimated that at least six inches has fallen in the last few hours. Comically, one guy had to be chased off the field by security for making a snow angel.

The score is Cleveland Indians 1 - Seattle Mariners 0 at the end of the first inning.

[Update 8:00 PM]

In the top of the fifth inning, another snow squall started dumping on the field. With two outs and two strikes on the batter with the Indians leading 4 - 0, meaning one more strike would constitute an official complete game if called because of snow, Mariner's manager Mike Hargrove stops play and goes on the field and starts jawing with the umpires. Minutes go by. More minutes go by as the snow gets worse. Finally, the umpires call a snow delay.

The fans are livid. Hargrove is being called the "Human Snow Delay."

Back to the action, shake your snow globe and see a representation of the conditions. Groundskeepers are blowing the snow off the infield and outfield. They plan to continue the game at some time.

[Update Late]

Game called. To be replayed as part of double-header tomorrow.
Woman Accused of Raping Boy

(Clarksville, Tennessee) A 35-year-old local woman, Jennifer Evelyn Allenby, was arrested this week for the alleged rape of a 17-year-old boy. It's alleged that Allenby coerced the boy into sex in early February while they both lived in the same residence.

Allenby was booked into custody with bond set at $10,000. A court appearance is scheduled for April 11th.
Ex-Jailer Guilty of Sex with Inmate

(Fort Wayne, Indiana) In December 2006, former corrections officer at the Northeast Juvenile Correctional Facility, Margaret A. Wiley, was arrested and charged with felony sexual misconduct and trafficking with a 16-year-old male inmate. She was booked and released on bond.

Wiley was terminated from her position in October after an internal corrections department investigation of alleged misconduct in August 2006.

This week, Wiley, 28, pleaded guilty to sexual misconduct in accordance with a plea deal. In return, prosecutors agreed to drop the trafficking charge at sentencing. There is no agreement regarding punishment. Wiley faces a possible three years in prison when sentenced, currently planned for later this month.

Wiley won't be required to register as a sex offender, but "she must receive sexual perpetrators' counseling." It's not clear what that is.

Tip: Don Morgenstern

[Update 05/02/07]

Wiley sentenced.

[Update 02/12/08]

Wiley Violates Probation
She has been in jail since December after she was accused of violating her probation by having what prosecutors Monday deemed "incidental" contact with a child younger than 18.

As part of her probation, Wiley was prohibited from having contact with children.

Allen Superior Magistrate Robert Schmoll ordered Wiley placed back on probation after she admitted the violation, but under a "zero tolerance policy," and extended her probation by two months.
One must suspect that Wiley has friends in high places because the Indiana justice system is doing everything possible to keep her out of jail.
Sex Offender Wanted for Failure to Register

(Houston, Texas) A 22-year-old local woman, Shavon Silvia Frederick, was convicted of aggravated sexual assault of a 10-year-old boy in 1999 and sentenced to probation. Frederick was also ordered to register as a sex offender.

Since October 2006, Frederick has been wanted by police for failing to register. Warrants have been issued for her arrest both for failure to register and for a theft charge.

This is an odd case. As described, Frederick was only 14 years old when sentenced to probation for the sex assault of a 10-year-old. Therefore, she essentially paid no price for her crime with the exception of having to register as a sex offender. And now she's an adult, whereabouts unknown, and possibly possessing the same proclivities she displayed as a juvenile.

Woman Indicted for Child Sex Crimes

(Toms River, New Jersey) In June 2006, 36-year-old Michelle L. Adams was arrested and charged with engaging in sex with two 13-year-old boys while she was baby-sitting two younger children.

This week, an Ocean County grand jury indicted Adams on 14 counts, including intercourse with one boy, aggravated criminal sexual contact with the other and seven counts of child endangerment.

Conviction on all counts could net Adams a punishment of more than 100 years in prison. In the interim, she remains free on bail.

Note that no photograph is available because "the release of police mug shots is prohibited by an executive order of the governor unless the defendant is a fugitive or considered an immediate risk to the public." Apparently those accused or convicted of crimes in New Jersey are granted mug shot confidentiality. Why is beyond me.

Illegal Alien (pick a name) Arrested

Tell me, how in the world can law enforcers even try to do their jobs when they are regularly presented with two, three, sometimes even dozens, of aliases while investigating an individual? I don't know.

Well, anyways, here's an example from TyronePa.com.
The illegal alien from Mexico discovered by Tyrone Borough Police, who was arrested recently on false identification charges, waived his preliminary hearing.

Alvarado Rivas, age 40, waived his right to a preliminary hearing last Wednesday. Rivas now faces two second degree felony forgery charges and three misdemeanors for giving police a false name and forged identification card from the Immigration and Naturalization Services.
The Pennsylvania State Police will fingerprint Rivas, or whoever he is, and consult the nationwide AFIS system to learn his true identity. Of course, they are assuming that he has been fingerprinted before. However, even if he has be previously fingerprinted, there is no guarantee that the name he used then wasn't phony.

One can only imagine the frustration experienced by the law enforcement community.
Convicted Molester Krystal Gehret

(Doylestown, Pennsylvania) Twenty-year-old Telford mother of one, Krystal Gehret, was charged with sexual assault of two different 14-year-old boys in two different counties.

Gehret was convicted of the offenses in both counties and now she has been sentenced in both counties.

Here is a timeline of Krystal Gehret's legal troubles.
In April 2006, Gehret was arrested and charged for engaging in sex with a 14-year-old boy in Montgomery County, Pa. The relationship led to a pregnancy and an abortion. Gehret was arraigned and released on bail.

Later in April 2006, Gehret was arrested and charged for engaging in sex with a different 14-year-old boy in Bucks County, Pa. Allegations surfaced that Gehret also attempted to intimidate a witness. She was arraigned and released on bail.

In August 2006, Gehret pleaded guilty in Bucks County to aggravated indecent assault, statutory sexual assault and other offenses related to engaging in sex with the first 14-year-old.

In January 2007, Gehret pleaded guilty in Montgomery County to statutory sexual assault in connection with a June 2005 incident. She was sentenced to six to 23 months in the county prison and ordered to complete two years probation upon release.

Yesterday in Bucks County, Judge Rea Boylan sentenced Gehret to 11 to 23 months in prison for sex crimes committed against a 14-year-old boy. Judge Boylan also sentenced her to a year of probation after her release for intimidating a witness and prohibited her from being alone with anyone under 14 unless approved by child protective services. Sex offender registration is also required.
Apparently, the penal system will be charged with sorting out exactly what Gehret is required to do. As it is, she likely will be in prison for the next year and then be on probation for at least a year. It's not clear how the punishments and conditions will be consolidated since two different jurisdictions are involved. In any event, I think Gehret would have seen harsher treatment had all her crimes been adjudicated in one court.

And let's not forget that Gehret is responsible for the lasting damage of imparting unknown psychological trauma on two boys while bearing a child and aborting another. A few years from now, Gehret will likely be able to shrug everything off and go on with her life. The victims' lives, however, are forever tainted.

Tip: Don Morgenstern

[Update 06/16/07]

Gehret sent home.
Woman Accused of Sexually Abusing Boy

(Auburn, New York) A 28-year-old Syracuse woman, Misty Burns, has been arraigned on a first-degree sodomy charge for allegedly abusing a boy under five years old between 1999 and 2001.

Burns and the boy reportedly knew each other (?) and authorities were alerted last year when the victim came forward.

Burns was booked into custody with bail set at $10,000 cash or $20,000 bond. An appearance in Auburn City Court is scheduled for April 13th.

Burns also faces prosecution for abuse of the same boy in Seneca County. According to State Police Senior Investigator Christopher L. Baldwin, Burns pleaded guilty to the attempted course of sexual conduct against a child and is scheduled to be sentenced on April 16th.

Streisand and Pelosi on the Edge of a Cliff

Mark your calendars, readers, a celebration dinner honoring Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi has been scheduled for April 12th at Barbra Streisand's cliff-top digs in Malibu, California.

A tidy $150,000 is all that is required for premium seating with Speaker Pelosi. It's $50,000 per couple for other premium seating and $25,000 per couple for budget-conscious supporters. Cocktails at 6:30 and dinner at 8:00 are included.

Invitations have already been sent out (see here) but all those digging deep into their wallets are welcome. Note that they want the money up front, then specific details about the gathering and a map will be provided.

Heh.
Official Definition of Honor Killing

It's not clear what benefit is to be derived by having an official definition for honor killing. Nevertheless, here it is. It comes from the Culture Manager for Sanliurfa Province, a region abutting the border with Syria in southeastern Turkey.

From Sabah:
"Honor killing applies to the ones escaping from their homes or betraying their wives or husbands. It does not apply to innocent ones."
As a definition, it's quite vague. It's also useless if one believes, as I do, that honor killing is simply murder.

However, it's worthwhile to note that within the context of the above definition, or an interpretation thereof, a reported 1,806 murders were committed in Turkey between 2001 and 2006.
Black Squirrel Rejected

(Auburn, Indiana) City Councilman Michael Walker introduced a motion to protect and celebrate the rare black squirrel by making it the official animal of Auburn.

Councilman David Painter told Councilman Michael Walter that several brown and gray squirrels in his district had called and objected.

Nobody would second Walker's motion, thereby, killing the idea.

Teacher's Aide Arrested for Unlawful Sex

(Downey, California) A 53-year-old special ed teacher's assistant at Downey High School, Jean Panzo-Montalbano, was arrested on Monday for engaging in sex with a 16-year-old boy.

Reportedly, Panzo-Montalbano worked for a county-wide special program which placed her in contact with the boy whom she raped at various locations, including his home. The Downey Police Department was alerted to the situation by the victim.

Panzo-Montalbano was booked into custody and released on $20,000 bond. Her arraignment has been scheduled for April 24th.

Iraqi Human Trafficking Ring

(Berlin) Approximately 100 mostly Kurdish Iraqis have been smuggled into Germany in the last four weeks for further transit to Sweden and Denmark. It hasn't been reported how they got into Germany.

German police in Bavaria and Lower Saxony arrested nine Iraqis suspected of operating the human trafficking ring which is believed to encompass connections in Denmark, the Czech Republic, Italy, Greece, Sweden and Syria. It's reported that the traffickers subjected their human cargo to inhuman conditions.

Having watched the reported paths of human traffickers in Europe, this case is the first I've heard of that starts in Iraq and ends largely in Sweden. Furthermore, it's customary for reports to indicate the sex of people being smuggled, which is usually female, however, that information is missing from reports of the Iraq-to-Sweden trafficking ring. This is important information since women are smuggled primarily for prostitution whereas men are smuggled for entirely different, and possibly more ominous, purposes. Even so, I'd guess they're smuggling females.
Officer Shoots Intruder Dead

(Roseville, California) Preliminary reporting has been sketchy.

From News10.net:
The police were called to a home on Sierra Gardens Drive in Roseville just before 10 p.m. Tuesday. The resident of the home, an off-duty law enforcement officer with a different agency, said she came home and found a man in her bedroom.

The two fought, and the officer shot the man twice in the head, killing him.
Looks like a clean shoot but we need to know more. For example, if the intruder turned out to be her husband, I would be suspicious. In any event, the double-tap to the head is notable.
Woman Impersonates Boy To Do Girl, 14

(Everett, Washington) Here's a case where many people were fooled.

From HeraldNet.com:
An Everett woman who posed as a teenage boy was arrested Sunday for allegedly molesting a 14-year-old girl who believed the older woman was her boyfriend.

Lorelei Josephine Corpuz, 30, lived for more than a year as a 17-year-old boy named "Mark," according to papers filed in Everett District Court.

As "Mark," Corpuz persuaded the girl's family to let "Mark" live in their home as the girl's boyfriend. Corpuz claimed to be an orphan, police alleged.

It wasn't until police arrested Corpuz on Sunday on an unrelated matter that the girl and her family learned that "Mark" was a woman - and almost twice the age they were led to believe, according to court papers.

That's when officers were told that Corpuz allegedly had beaten and sexually assaulted the girl.
Corpuz was booked into the Snohomish County Jail on $150,000 bail on suspicion of child rape.

[Update 04/22/07]

A June 1st trial date has been scheduled.

[Update 05/10/07]

Corpuz pleads guilty.
Teacher Investigated for Misconduct with Boy

(Merritt Island, Florida) A 25-year-old cheerleading coach and physics teacher at Edgewood Junior-Senior High School, Jennifer Leigh Manuell, has been suspended with pay while being investigated for having an inappropriate relationship with a 17-year-old student.

The Brevard County Sheriff's Office is investigating. Thus far, no charges have been filed. Nonetheless, it appears that school officials are taking every precaution by removing Manuell from the classroom.
Rape in the Virgin Islands

(St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands) Check out this case from a couple weeks ago.
A 13-year-old girl who admitted to authorities that she had sex with a 16-year-old boy was arrested Friday morning on rape charges.

The girl was taken into custody at 9:35 a.m. and charged with second-degree aggravated rape, according to the Police Department's arrest log. Adults convicted of that crime face a minimum of 10 years in prison.

The boy suspected of being the girl's consensual sexual partner was arrested on Wednesday and charged with the lesser crime of third-degree rape, according to police arrest records.

Both children were released into their parents' custody after their arrests, according to police.
So the girl, 13, gets charged with a more serious crime than the boy, 16. Could someone please explain this to me? Feel free to disregard the fact that the sex has been described as consensual because the charges don't make sense any way you look at them. It's idiotic.

Oddly, St. Thomas is described as the cosmopolitan Virgin Island. Based upon this rape case, it might be said that St. Thomas is a bit more convoluted and confused than cosmopolitan.

Karl Rove Irks PETA

During the Washington Correspondents' dinner last week, Karl Rove jokingly mentioned that he liked to rip the heads off critters. In response, PETA's chief veghead, Ingrid Newkirk, wrote Rove a letter at the White House accusing him of "severe compassion deficit."

Obviously, Newkirk lacks a sense of humor.
Wal-Mart Biggest Charitable Donor

Chances are that the elite media will not herald this news.
Wal-Mart Stores Inc. increased its U.S. charitable giving 10 percent last year to $272.9 million, the world's largest retailer said Tuesday, likely defending its position as the country's largest corporate donor of cash.
The majority of the charity goes to local recipients selected by individual Wal-Mart and Sam's Club stores.

Wal-Mart deserves recognition for its charitable efforts.
Lunch Break Controversy

(Tampa, Florida) Did you hear about the guy who is suing the U.S. Postal Service because they give him a lunch break? Kenneth Fox says his rights are being violated by mandatory lunch breaks.

I'd bet a lunch that he would sue if it were the other way around and he wasn't given a lunch break. Some people try to work every angle.

Intruder Blasted Away

(Dallas, Texas) Police report that an intruder kicked in the door at a residence in the Chenault Creek Apartments on Dilido Road and was shot several times by the resident. The intruder later died at the Baylor Medical Center in Dallas.

No charges have been filed.
Female Sexual Abuser Gets Probation

(Houston, Texas) Last November, a 36-year-old married mother of two, Renee Skinner, was charged with sexual abuse of a child for engaging in intimate relations with a 16-year-old neighborhood boy.

This week, it's reported that Skinner pleaded guilty to two counts of sexual abuse of a child and was sentenced to eight years probation. She was also ordered to register as a sex offender and she cannot have contact with children 17 and under nor live within 1,000 feet of a school. Failure to meet the terms of her probation could send Skinner to prison for two to ten years.

Nonetheless, the victim's family was angered by the sentence. According to the father, Skinner fed some type of pills and alcohol to the boy before sexually abusing him and she was never indicted for the alleged acts. The family's attorney, Ronald Raydon, was also disappointed.
"I do think they should have brought all charges -- they should have taken everything to the full extent because they have got to start treating women that do these crimes the same way they treat the men in order to hopefully get some type of a deterrent or bring more awareness to the community about what's going on," he said.
Yep. And, take it from me, it's going on.
Dalton State Professor Supports Terrorism

Dr. Hassan A. El-Najjar, a professor of sociology at Dalton State College in Dalton, Georgia, is an outspoken supporter of terrorism who runs a jihad and kill Jews website called Aljazeerainfo.org.

It's sickening to think that American taxpayer dollars are involved with paying El-Najjar. If he wants to spew anti-American and anti-Semitic propaganda, it shouldn't occur at a tax-supported institution.

Check out the full story on El-Najjar.
British Road to the Caliphate

Since Muslims are offended, Britain is censoring The Holocaust from school curricula.

The UK isn't formally or officially denying The Holocaust occurred. Instead, the Brits are wanting to erase any reference to The Holocaust from memories while making sure it's not taught to future thinkers. Naturally, if nobody ever reads or talks or thinks about The Holocaust, it's a tree falling unnoticed in a deserted wilderness.

First to serfdom then to slavery, the Brits can expect nothing else from political correctness. And it's coming to the U.S. Give it time. The slavery part likely won't come about, though. The Second Amendment is a nasty impediment.
Hershey Move to Mexico

If you like your chocolate with a south-of-the-border flavor, it's coming soon to a retailer near you. Hershey announced that production of Reese's products and KitKat will move to Monterrey, Mexico.
Hershey will cut as many as 250 jobs at its hometown Reese's candy factory as part of a wider move to reduce domestic labor costs by switching production to contractors and a new plant in Mexico, the candy company said Tuesday.
Labor costs are 90 to 95 percent cheaper in Mexico and raw materials are 10 percent cheaper. In total, Hershey foresees cutting 1,500 jobs in a restructuring program that will save $190 million per year. Included is last month's closing of a plant in Smith Falls, Ontario, which affected more than 500 workers. Also, Hershey products will now be made in India and South Korea.

Two of three Hershey, Pennsylvania, plants will remain open.

For now.
Masters Golf Protest

On the streets of Augusta, Georgia, the photo was taken in 2003.

While the women were upset about the membership policies of the Augusta National Golf Club, the guy with the orange sign was protesting for a different reason.

Parents Bail Out Lina Sinha

(New York City) Teacher Lina Sinha, convicted last week, was bailed out of Rikers Island today by her parents. The $3.5 million bail package was approved by Supreme Court Justice John Cataldo.
Her parents gave a bondsman six percent of the total bail and put up two of the three Montessori schools they own -- one in Manhattan and one in Brooklyn -- as security.
It's nice to have wealthy parents. Nonetheless, I can't imagine that they're too happy about this whole situation.
Designated Smoking Area

(Koronadal City, Philippines) Here's an interesting approach to discourage smoking.
Oficials of the South Cotabato provincial hospital have issued a directive requiring persons who want to smoke to go straight to the hospital's morgue.

"The law requires us to designate a smoking area so we picked the morgue," said Dr. Edgardo Sandig, South Cotabato health officer.
Heh.
Arab Muslim Lesbians

Frankly, I am surprised to learn that there is such a person as an Arab Muslim lesbian. Naturally, the fact that 300 recently gathered for a conference is somewhat of a shock.

And just where would a group of Arab Muslim lesbians hold their conference? Here's a hint. It's not Baghdad. Answer at the link.
Junkyard Intruder Shot

(Southhampton, New York) A 55-year-old man, Albinas Augulis, was shot Sunday morning in the groin when he allegedly tried to burglarize an auto salvage yard. The manager was the shooter.

Augulis was taken to the hospital and is expected to recover. He was charged with criminal trespassing, possession of burglary tools and attempted larceny.

The salvage yard has seen a recent surge in burglaries with thieves taking car batteries and catalytic converters. The manager was not charged.

Can't Rape? Steal Something!

(Cook County, Illinois) A 29-year-old African immigrant, Joseph Mbatchou, broke into an Arlington Heights home to sexually assault a woman but, shucks, there wasn't one there. So, he decided to steal an SUV. The owner returned home, noticed the theft and called police. Within minutes, Mbatchou was arrested a few blocks away by Arlington Heights Police.

Although reportedly homeless, Mbatchou now rests at the concrete confines of the Cook County Jail. His bond has been set at $100,000.

Think about it. African immigrant, homeless, probably jobless, and the theft was not premeditated, more of an accidental borrowing. Not only that but he took a gas-guzzling SUV, all of which deserve to be eradicated from the Earth. Just guessing but it's possible that even a brand-new, apprentice lefty barrister could get Mbatchou's case easily thrown out of court. Come on, hasn't the poor guy been victimized enough?

There is one sticking point, though. Mbatchou was out on bond from an indecency collar last week. He just can't get a break.
What Happens in Mecca, Stays in Mecca

(Mecca, Saudi Arabia) In the holy city of Mecca, also called Makkah, where God's message was revealed to the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), a tipster led members of the Commission for the Promotion of Virtue and the Prevention of Vice to a drunk drug dealer's house where they found more than three pounds of hashish, five bottles of alcohol, SR7,530 ($2,000) of drug money and plenty of porn.
Commission members arrested a woman, thought to be a prostitute, at the man's home. "Following investigations, we learned that the man has been dealing in drugs for quite some time. He has been operating with a Pakistani man and a local Saudi man. The three have been handed over to the Anti-Drugs Department for further questioning," said the commission member.

In a separate incident, commission members raided two brothels in the city and arrested a number of expatriate prostitutes and their Pakistani pimps. "The commission received a tip-off that there are two brothels operating in the Al-Haj Street and Al-Mansour Street. The pimps running the brothels were all Pakistanis. They would provide the women with accommodation to sell themselves," said the commission spokesman.

"The women would charge SR200 for a short time with them. For an entire night they would charge SR500 to SR600. A commission member asked a Pakistani pimp to arrange a date for him. He told him to arrive at a certain place at a certain time. Commission members raided the location and found a number of drunken men, alcohol and prostitutes. The pimps and prostitutes were all arrested and have been transferred to the police for further questioning," said the commission member.
Meanwhile, religion of peace experts are conducting a new training program to teach members of the Commission for the Promotion of Virtue and the Prevention of Vice how to better promote virtue and prevent vice.

Yearly, millions of pilgrims travel to the holy city of Mecca and each follower of the religion of peace is obligated to face the city during his/her five daily prayer sessions. It's also known to be a city of many secrets. However, based upon the above article, it's no secret that whores, alcohol and drugs are available. If the city fathers legalized gambling, it might possibly become similar to Las Vegas, another city with millions of visitors along with whores, alcohol and drugs.
