Just following up on what I wrote here, I had the opportunity to talk to Michael Padula recently. Based upon input from fellow park inhabitants, I searched and found the candidate. Mr. Padula first handed me some literature which read:
MIKE PADULA
FOR
WARD 2 COUNCILMAN
"NO MORE PRETTY . . . WE WANT PROSPERITY"
Hello residents of Ward 2 and all of Painesville. I am running for councilman against Mr. Horvath. Let me explain my campaign promise:" No more pretty...we want prosperity" First, Mr. Horvath has voted for a "pretty" new exit sign at the Rt.2/Richmond St exit. The original sign looked the same, but was smaller, and in perfect condition. It cost the taxpayers of Painesvile $15,000 to look "pretty". The next example of "pretty" in Painesville is the Paine Memorial near Lake Erie College. Mr. Horvath voted to improve the site at a cost to the taxpayers of $10,000, this next example is confusing, why would Mr. Horvath vote to replace perfectly good street lights on Main St and around the circle with "pretty", at a cost of (the city is not able to give me a cost for the project) to the taxpayers. This may sound silly to point out these examples, but Mr Horvath must be held responsible for his voting record.
Now that the Hospital is leaving Painesville Mr Horvath should step down from his Ward 2 position and allow me to lead the city into the 21st Century. I say that city council should have worked with the Hospital to pay the residents in that area a fairer price for their homes! Your tax dollars should have been spent to save the Hospital, not on "pretty" projects, then your city will "prosper." All the taxpayers hear now from City Hall is that "the city is shocked to see the Hospital move". Does that sound familiar? When the Cleveland Browns asked the city of Cleveland for assistance to stay in Cleveland...well we all know what happened. Cleveland (just like Painesville) took for granted that the Browns would not move, and sat on thir butts while the Browns went to Baltimore.Sounds familiar, right! Mr Horvath should be considered responsible for what happened to Lake East Hospital when you read in the paper that "we had no idea the Hosital was moving" He voted for "pretty" while neglecting the needs of the Hospital.
I have a plan for the city to prosper and grow , new businesses for the 21st Century, a safer and bigger Rec. Park for the children, and I will improve the city image so that everyone will participate in the direction the Cty of Painesville is headed.
VOTE FOR MIKE PADULA , COUNCILMAN OF WARD 2. YOUR VOTE FOR ME IS A VOTE FOR THE FUTURE OF PAINESVILLE. LET ME GUIDE THE CITY INTO THE 21st CENTURY.(sic)
My observation is that we have to wait for Tuesday's decision to see if being a defined resident is important in determining political issues.
