(Baghdad, Iraq) The Chinese Embassey in Baghdad has confirmed that eight Chinese construction workers from Fujian province were taken hostage by terrorists last week while traveling on the main highway from Iraq to Jordan.
Eight Chinese Construction Workers Kidnapped
The terrorists, who identified themselves as the Nuamaan Brigade of the Islamic Resistance, released a videotape of the hostages to Aljazeera television. Showing masked gunmen next to the hostages holding passports, the tape has audio which demands that the Chinese government "clarify its position" on Iraq and threatens to kill the captives within 48 hours if it is not done. Diplomats are working to free the workers.
