Lewd Teacher Gets No Jail
(Hudson Falls, New York) A little over a year ago, a 31-year-old teacher's aide at Hudson Falls High School, Karlie Hall, was arrested and charged with child endangerment and public lewdness for exchanging sexually explicit emails with a 14-year-old student. She also exposed herself to him and bought cigarettes for him. Subsequently, Hall was released on $2,000 bail.
Today, in Hudson Falls Village Court, Hall pleaded guilty to misdemeanors of endangering the welfare of a child and unlawfully dealing with a child. She was sentenced to three years probation and instructed to have no contact with the victim.
In a related development, the mother of the victim, Kristine M. Fernandez, filed a $500,000 lawsuit last Friday on behalf of her (now) 15-year-old son. It's not clear what injury is to be claimed. Nonetheless, Fernandez and son seek damages from the school district, Hudson Falls Senior High School, and Karlie M. Hall on the grounds that no adequate background check was conducted prior to hiring Hall.
