Lawsuit From Teacher Sex Case Settled

(Fort Worth, Texas) In August 2005, 30-year-old teacher at Holy Trinity Catholic School in Grapevine, Dawn Reiser, was convicted of aggravated sexual assault of a child and indecency with a child.

A jury found Reiser guilty of engaging in multiple episodes of sex with her 13-year-old student, including one incident when she tied the boy's arms to the bedposts to have sex.

Yesterday, a civil lawsuit resulting from Reiser's conviction was settled.

From Star-Telegram:
The family of a 13-year-old who was sexually assaulted by former teacher Dawn Reiser settled a lawsuit Friday against the Fort Worth Roman Catholic Diocese, attorneys said.

An attorney for the diocese said the family requested that terms of the settlement, which included an undisclosed amount of money, be kept confidential.

The boy's family is "pleased the diocese has resolved this matter to their satisfaction and that this young man can move forward with his life," said Tahira Khan Merritt of Dallas, one of their attorneys.
To me, undisclosed amount of money translates into "a handsome wad of cash." Presumably, the diocese will now be motivated to apply more prudent controls to screen and monitor the teachers in its school system.

All the while, Dawn Reiser, who sent the 13-year-old sex boy-toy perfumed love letters adorned with hearts and flowers, has been in a Texas prison. She was sentenced to eight years. The status of her marriage to Mr. Reiser has not been reported.
