Boy Claims STD From Teacher's Aide

(Mishawaka, Indiana) A mid-thirties teacher's aide at Grissom Middle School, Teresa Getz, was arrested for engaging in a sexual relationship with a 14-year-old male student.

From WNDU.com:
Court documents allege about a dozen separate sexual encounters took place, between June of last year, and July of this year, and mention times when the boy would spend the night.

Getz gave a statement to police denying any wrongdoing.

The documents indicate the boy was able to identify very private tattoo on Getz body, furthermore, the boy claimed he received a sexually transmitted disease from Getz.
WHOA! Intimate tattoo and an STD! The case is not stacking up well for Getz.

She was booked into the St. Joseph County Jail and released on bond. A December trial date has been scheduled.

[Update 01/07/08]

Getz goes on trial.

[Update 01/12/08]

Mistrial declared in Getz case.

From WNDU:
Jurors could not come to an agreement about if Teresa Getz had sex with an eighth grade student, or not.

The case was handed over to the jury Wednesday afternoon, and jurors spent several hours deliberating, before telling a judge they could not come to an agreement.

During the trial, jurors heard from the alleged victim Tuesday, and Wednesday Getz took the stand in her defense.

She refuted all the student's claims; that they had sex and oral sex many times throughout the summer of 2006.

Getz was hit hard in cross-examination, as the attorney went through all the details of the student's story, but Getz refuted it all consistently and stayed calm.

Getz admits the student spent a lot of time at her house, even staying the night, but says he was helping with chores, and playing with her three children.

Inconsistencies in both Getz and the student’s stories from when they were first reported until now were brought up on both sides in the closing statements.
It's not known whether the prosecutors will retry the case. Since it appears to be a he said - she said situation, they may not.
