Boy-Sex Nets Woman Year in Jail

(Ann Arbor, Michigan) Last month, a 41-year-old mother of two, Dawn Marie Richards, was arrested and charged for engaging in sex with a 14-year-old boy. Also last month, she pleaded no contest to an accosting charge and an additional count of intent to committ sexual penetration. In exchange, prosecutors dropped a criminal sexual conduct charge.

This week, Richards was sentenced to one year in jail by Chief Washtenaw County Circuit Judge Archie Brown. She was also ordered to complete five years probation and to register as a sex offender.

Richards protested being deemed a sex offender, claiming that she didn't know registration as a sex offender was part of the plea agreement. Even so, it stands. Other conditions in the sentence include no contact with the victim, treatment for substance abuse and orders for her to move out of the trailer park when her jail term is over.

Richards blamed alcohol addiction for her behavior.
