OnePoll, a British market-research company, conducted a survey of 5,000 gays and lesbians to identify the most popular icons of the homosexual community. Here are the results:

Not being a member of the alternative sexual orientation demographic disqualifies me from gleaning any substantive meaning from the polling results. Even so, I think it's interesting that Dolly Parton is more a gay icon than Elton John, Barbra Streisand and Liza Minnelli. I would have thought differently. One also has to wonder whether Simon Cowell enjoys being more homosexually attractive than The Village People. Sorry, Sully, you didn't make the list.

All in all, this polling may seem to be frivolous but I'd suggest that it provides useful information to businesses selling products and services to gays and lesbians.
