Garlic Festival Dress Code
(Gilroy, California) The 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals has ruled that it is constitutional for the Gilroy Garlic Festival to impose a dress code which prohibits gang attire. The court concluded that gang colors are not protected speech at a garlic festival.
The case came from the Top Hatter motorcycle club which was asked to leave the garlic festival in 2000. The club sued in federal court, lost, appealed and, now, lost the appeal.
Although it's recognized that people are pungently noticeable after visiting the Gilroy Garlic Festival, be apprised that people can be offensive upon arrival.
