School Bus Seat Belt Law Passed
(Austin, Texas) Gov. Rick Perry signed the school bus seat belt law on Friday. It applies to all school buses bought on or after September 1, 2010. Lap and shoulder restraints will be required.
No information has been provided to indicate how much taxes will be increased to pay for the school bus seat belts. However, while Texas politicians are rifling the wallets of taxpayers, they might as well just spring for student front and side airbags at the same time.
By the way, the law came about because two students died last year when a charter bus carrying a soccer team overturned. Thankfully, the legislators opted for seat belts instead of banning soccer teams or charter buses.
