Teacher Duct Tapes Student

(Setauket, New York) A 57-year-old gym teacher at Paul Gelinas Junior High School, Matthew Foster, has been arrested for endangering the welfare of a child and assault.

Foster allegedly wrapped a 15-year-old student's legs in duct tape because he was late for class and, subsequently, the student broke his arm in a fall while attempting to remove the tape.

According to school officials, wrapping students in duct tape is not an authorized method of dealing with tardiness and corporal punishment is prohibited in the state of New York.

Foster has been placed on paid leave.
