Colorado Baby Severely Abused

(Grand Junction, Colorado) Boy, this story is really disturbing.

Erin Marie DeSpain, 23, is being held in the Mesa County Jail on suspicion of five felony counts of child abuse for alleged crimes that occurred between March and May, according to the Mesa County Sheriff's Department.

The child involved was DeSpain's 2-month-old infant. A baby!

Doctors at the hospital said the baby had multiple broken ribs and found evidence that the injuries occurred on different dates.

An X-ray showed the baby was healing from multiple injuries -- including a skull fracture, a broken right femur and tibia and a subdural hematoma -- that were inconsistent with DeSpain's explanation that the baby fell off the couch and hit a bouncy chair before hitting the ground, according to the report.

When asked about her baby's broken right leg, DeSpain told investigators the infant fell off her lap and she grabbed the baby by the leg.

Hell, the baby is probably lucky to be alive. Skull fracture, broken leg, broken ribs! On a 2-month-old! I'm utterly sickened.
