Teacher's Aide Gets No Jail for Boffing Student - Updated

(Kress, Texas) Thirty-three-year-old teacher's aide Erica Monquecho Gonzales (aka Erica Morquecho Gonzales), formerly at Kress High School, pleaded guilty in accordance with a deal to an improper relationship between an educator and a student.

Gonzales and the student reportedly had numerous encounters. Gonzales also allegedly had sexual relations with another Kress High School student.

Even though Gonzales was charged with the crime she committed in Hale County, the charges from that incident were combined with charges from Swisher County.

The other counts of the indictment were dismissed.

In the conditions of the plea agreement, Gonzales does not have to register as a sex offender.

Consequently, Gonzales was sentenced to six years of probation.

Texas Teacher's Aide Indicted for Sex with Male Student

(Kress, Texas) A 33-year-old special education teacher's aide at Kress High School, Erica Morquecho Gonzales, has been indicted by a Hale County grand jury for allegedly engaging in sexual relations with a 17-year-old male student.

Kress ISD Superintendent Doug Setliff says he received a call from the Swisher County Sheriff's office over Spring Break.

"It had been reported to the Swisher County Sheriff's department that we had a paraprofessional on staff that had some inappropriate contacts with some of our students."

Upon receiving the report, the Swisher County Sheriff's office launched an investigation, which the Texas Rangers took over.

According to Setliff, Gonzales may have had relations with more than one student. The Texas Rangers worked with Swisher and Hale County authorities during the investigation.

On Wednesday, Gonzales and the alleged 17-year old male victim both were subpoenaed to appear before a Hale County Grand Jury. According to the indictment, the 33-year-old allegedly had sex with the Kress High School student on January 26, 2008.

An arrest warrant is being drafted.

Kress is a small community about halfway between Lubbock and Amarillo.
