(London, England) As members of the British Parliament are considering proposals to liberalize abortion laws, making it more available, data from the Department of Health Statistics have been released indicating that abortions are already quite easy to obtain.
Record numbers of women are having two or more abortions, fuelling fears that they are increasingly seen as an alternative to contraception. One might suggest that a lesson would be learned when women, particularly the very young, have repeat abortions. Logically, when behavior produces repeated bad results, resources are allocated to change behavior. Statistics indicate that harmful behavior is not only continuing but increasing. Year to year, the number of women having abortions and having repeat abortions is increasing.
One third of terminations are carried out on women who have had at least one before - and some have had eight or more.
Some girls are on their fourth abortion before they reach 18, figures from the Department of Health show.
I haven't researched the statistics for abortions in the U.S. but I would suggest that they are substantively similar to those in Britain.
Some contend that abortion has simply become the last ditch stab at birth control. That is my conclusion.
