Mom Locks Up Kids, Leaves to Sell Sex

(Spartanburg, South Carolina) A 26-year-old local mom, Maribel Lazaro Lopez, was arrested this week by Spartanburg Sheriff's deputies for allegedly leaving her two children, ages two and four, locked up in a motor vehicle for two hours while she entered a residence and performed sex acts for money.

Deputies were called to 2479 Country Club Road at 9:50am Tuesday on a report that two children were left unattended in a Ford Expedition. The four-year old was moving around the vehicle while his younger brother was asleep. The vehicle did not have car seats.

Officers found Lopez, who said she had been in an apartment performing sex acts with two men for money according to the incident report.

The children were immediately placed in emergency protective custody while Lopez was booked into custody at the Spartanburg County Detention Center with bond set at $5,000.

Interestingly, it appears that the reported sex-for-sale aspect of this case, Lopez allegedly was selling sex with an 18-year-old accomplice, isn't being pursued by the authorities.
