Georgia Teacher Faces Sex, Drug Charges

(Coweta County, Georgia) A 25-year-old teacher's assistant at Northgate High School, Ashley Brenetta Florence, was arrested today for allegedly engaging in an ongoing sexual relationship with a 17-year-old male student and providing him with drugs.

Florence faces felony sexual assault and drug charges.

On March 31, a teacher approached Northgate's School Resource Officer to get him to talk with the 17-year-old about an unrelated matter. The student agreed to let the officer pat him down, and the officer found a cigar and a pill bottle with 16 pills, later identified as Xanax and Vicodin, according to a police incident report.

The 17-year-old was initially charged, but those charges were dismissed when investigators became suspicious that the 17-year-old was engaged in an ongoing sexual relationship with Florence.

The student admitted to having sex with Florence and said she gave him pills to sell so that he could pay for his probation (?).

Florence was booked into custody Thursday afternoon. A bail amount wasn't reported.
