Woman Gets 5 Years in Prison for Child Sex - Updated

(Kirksville, Missouri) Twenty-six-year-old Melissa Songer completed the 120-day sex offender assessment and requested to be placed on probation.
Circuit Judge Russell Steele denied Songer's request and ordered her to serve the remainder of her sentence in state prison.

After serving the five years in prison, Songer will be required to be under lifetime supervision by wearing a GPS ankle bracelet.

She must also register as a sex offender.
It appears that the assessment was less than favorable.

(Kirksville, Missouri) Twenty-six-year-old Melissa Songer admitted to engaging in sex with a 13-year-old boy and was sentenced to five years in prison.
Songer will serve 120 days in the Department of Corrections Sex Offender Assessment Unit.

After that, depending on how well she does during those 120 days, she could serve probation for the remainder of the five years.

Adair County Prosecutor Matt Wilson told KTVO due to the nature of her offense, Songer will also be under lifetime supervision by wearing a GPS ankle bracelet.
Songer was also ordered to register as a sex offender

Missouri Woman Accused of Raping Boy

(Kirksville, Missouri) A 25-year-old local woman, Melissa Songer, has been accused of engaging in sex with a boy under the age of 14. An Adair County grand jury has indicted Songer on a charge of first-degree statutory rape.
The indictment alleges the incident, involving a boy age 13, occurred in September of last year. Songer is schedule to be arraigned in Adair County Circuit Court Tuesday.
Songer was booked into custody at the Adair County Jail with bond set at $50,000.
