(Winston-Salem, North Carolina) Thirty-two-year-old English teacher at Atkins High School, Amy Yarbrough, pleaded guilty earlier today to engaging in a sexual relationship with a male student.
As a result, she was sentenced to two years in prison.
Winston-Salem Detective Gary East testified in court that two custodian workers reported to the school principal last November that Yarbrough was staying late into the evening and kept the door to her classroom locked.Yarbrough must also serve one year of probation and register as a sex offender for 30 years.
After the custodians made the complaint, investigators were planning to install a surveillance camera in her classroom, but before it was installed, a school resource officer and the school vice principal caught the two in the act, East said.
East also read a statement from the 16-year-old male student, who Yarbrough was tutoring in English. According to that statement, the two had been having unprotected sex once a week for about three weeks.
