(Florence, South Carolina) A 32-year-old teacher formerly at West Florence High School, Amy Barhite, has been accused of engaging in inappropriate conduct with students under the age of 18. Barhite has been charged with two counts of solicitation of a minor.
Barhite is accused of sending “inappropriate texts” to more than one student younger than 18, Florence County Sheriff’s Lt. Jason Dore said.Barhite was booked into custody at the Florence County Detention Center and later released on $5,000 bond.
According to the arrest warrants, the text messages were intended to persuade or entice the students to engage in sexual activity. The investigation indicated no actual sexual contact ever took place, Dore said.
