(Flowood, Mississippi) In September 2010, two 29-year-old local women, Owanda Osborne and Jennifer Wright, were arrested for shoplifting. On October 21, they appeared in Flowood Municipal Court to face the charges.
Both Osborne and Wright pleaded guilty to shoplifting and were sentenced to seven days in jail. But the story doesn't end there.
"During their procedure in court, one of our police officers, Lloyd Coulter, received a tip that both had come to court driving stolen vehicles," Chief DeWitt says. "They were waiting to be transported to serve their time, and yes, they got a tap on the shoulder saying come with me."Good rule of thumb: don't go to court in a stolen vehicle. Better rule: don't be a thief. Heh.
Osborne and Wright found themselves arrested again, this time for one count each of felony possession of a stolen vehicle. One of them had cruised to court in a sparkling Acura, stolen out of Ridgeland. The other sailed up in a swanky Toyota 4-Runner, stolen from Vicksburg.
