(Omaha, Nebraska) A former ice cream store manager, Chelsea Carlson, has pleaded guilty to statutory rape of a 15-year-old boy.
As a result, Carlson was sentenced to six months in jail and two years of probation for her felony conviction of attempted first-degree sexual assault on a child.
Over the course of two months last year, prosecutors say, Carlson had sex with a 15-year-old boy she met at the store where Carlson served as manager. Carlson, then 20, took the boy to her apartment.Carlson was also ordered to register as a sex offender for 15 years.
Carlson’s attorney, Hunter Sadle, described the relationship as consensual.
“This isn’t a case where the victim was held against his will,” he said.
Prosecutor Renee Mathias, a deputy Douglas County attorney, said it didn’t matter.
Under state law, she noted, it is illegal for anyone 19 and older to have sex with anyone 15 or younger. Mathias said the vast majority of such cases involve young men with underage girls.
