Maine Woman Gets Jail for Sex with Boy - Updated

(Augusta, Maine) Last month, 32-year-old mother-of-three, Melissa A. Gagne aka Melissa A. Buxton, pleaded guilty to two counts of sexual abuse of a minor stemming from a groomed relationship with a 14-year-old friend of her son.

Yesterday in Kennebec County Superior Court, Gagne was sentenced to four years in prison with all but seven months suspended.
[Gagne] cried throughout the sentencing hearing, at various times sobbing loudly.

"I'm sorry for what I've done," Gagne told the judge. "Sorry doesn't make up for it. I wish I could go back and change it. I'm not a child molester. I'm so sorry to the family."

Responding to questions from her attorney, John O'Donnell, Gagne told the judge, "I can't go in public. I'm humiliated, as I should be. I shouldn't have done it. It was wrong. I'm the adult."
In Gagne's defense, attorney O'Donnell said she had suffered sex abuse as a 14-year-old, tried suicide several times, is currently engaged in a methadone treatment program and has three children by three different men. In other words, Gagne has issues.

In addition to her jail time, Gagne was sentenced to two years of post-release probation and ordered to register as a sex offender for 10 years.

Maine Woman Accused of Sex with Boy
[Previous 11/5/10 post]
(Winslow, Maine) A 31-year-old local woman, Melissa A. Buxton, was arrested Wednesday for allegedly engaging in sex with a 14-year-old boy, her son's friend.

She faces two counts of sexual abuse of a minor under the age of 16.
The indictment says the offenses involved a boy who was 14 years old, in Winslow, in June and again in early August.

Winslow officer Joshua Veilleux said police involvement started Sept. 17 when arrived at Fortier Street to find several people screaming and yelling at each other.

"Once we calmed everybody down, that's when we found out why the people were fighting," Veilleux said. "Melissa's husband was suspicious of his wife, and he had come home and the 14-year-old boy was in the house visiting, after the husband had asked that he not be at their home."

That night, Veilleux said, the boy denied the allegations that he was having sex with Buxton.

Buxton, a stay-at-home mother, knew the teenager because her son was friends with him, Veilleux said.
Buxton was booked in to custody at the Kennebec County Jail with bond set at $1,000.
