(New Port Richey, Florida) Last Thursday, a 56-year-old Pinellas County teacher, Deborah Terrero, was convicted by a jury on charges of DUI manslaughter, vehicular homicide and DUI causing serious bodily injury.
The jury found Terrero guilty in the crash that killed 37-year-old Nicole Cetrangolo and seriously injured Kenneth Dillon on April 5, 2009.Terrero faces up to 20 years in prison when sentenced on July 1.
Dillon was driving his motorcycle north on U.S. 19 with Cetrangolo on the back. Neither was wearing a helmet.
As they approached Oakley Avenue, a Ford Explorer driven by Terrero pulled out into the northbound lanes. A witness testified the Explorer ran a stop sign and that Dillon attempted to avoid the SUV but couldn't.
Cetrangolo died of massive head trauma. Dillon, 50, spent weeks in a hospital and has endured a number of surgeries.
