(Dayton, Ohio) In November 2006, local mom China Arnold was arrested for aggravated murder of her three and one-half week-old daughter, Paris Talley.
Arnold reportedly had placed the baby in a microwave oven and the girl died from thermal injury.
Since her initial arrest, China Arnold has gone to trial three times.
The first trial ended in a mistrial because of the introduction of new evidence. The second trial resulted in a conviction and life sentence which were reversed by an appeals court on grounds of prosecutorial misconduct and the recantation of a star witness.
Earlier today (5/13/11), jurors in the third trial convicted China Arnold, 31, of aggravated murder.
The jury of 11 women and one man received the case about 4:30 p.m. Thursday, then deliberated until 8 p.m. before breaking for the night. The sentencing proceedings will commence on Monday. The death penalty is an option.
The jury resumed deliberations about 8:30 a.m. Friday and arrived at the verdict just after 11 a.m.
