(Rochester, Minnesota) Three female limousine drivers were allegedly fired for being female.
According to Minnesota Public Radio, members of the Saudi royal family were in Rochester for appointments at the Mayo Clinic. The three women were among many drivers who were hired to help the family and their entourage get around.The women have filed a complaint with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission.
But after the first drive the company terminated them from that job, saying the visitors from Saudi Arabia did not want women drivers.
A nonprofit organization called Gender Justice staged an event Friday in south Minneapolis to protest the alleged firings and Saudi Arabia's law prohibiting women from driving in that country.Fired drivers Gretchen Cooper, Barbara Herold and Lisa Boutelle voiced their complaints this week against three transportation companies and the Saudi royal family.
