(Atlanta, Georgia) As a result of widespread cheating identified within the Atlanta Public Schools system, two principals and four area superintendents have been booted from their positions.
As many as 178 other educators in 44 schools are also in the crosshairs for possible removal.
Atlanta Schools Interim Superintendent Errol Davis has said no one implicated in the scandal will be standing before students when the school year begins.Given the scope of the problem(s) identified, it's hard to dispute the contention that cheating was conspiratorial and institutionally mandated to avoid complying with educational standards imposed by Congress. If true, the students in Atlanta are being denied a quality education.
In any event, one must question the adequacy of the Atlanta Public Schools system before minimum standards were imposed.
