(Fresno, California)
A former Washington Union High School teacher pleaded no contest Thursday in Fresno County Superior Court to two counts of sexual intercourse with a minor.

Nadia Diaz, 27, of Kerman could face no jail time when she is sentenced next month.

Judge Dennis Peterson said he will wait until next month to decide whether Diaz gets probation or serves up to one year in jail. He also will decide at that time whether Diaz must register as a sex offender. The incidents she was charged on date back to early 2010.

Peterson can choose to make Diaz register for life, for a three-year probation term or not at all, said Richard Berman, her lawyer. She also may have to pay restitution in the case, a decision that Peterson will defer until sentencing.
Sentencing is scheduled for November 16.
