Illinois Teacher Gets Probation in Sex Case - Update

(Grayslake, Illinois) Former Grant High School teacher Amber Kraus, 30, pleaded guilty today to sexual abuse of a 16-year-old student.

As a result, Kraus was sentenced to 30 months probation.
The agreement requires that Kraus register as a sexual predator for the rest of her life, that she have no contact with the victim or Grant High School, and have no contact with those under the age of 17.

She also must make a $500 donation to the Lake County Child Advocacy Center, perform 150 hours of community service and complete any sex offender treatment or other probation services deemed necessary by the court’s Sex Offender Unit.

According to Assistant State’s Attorney Jason Grindel, Krause engaged in sexual contact with the 16-year-old in the early fall of 2013 at her former Grayslake home.
Kraus resigned her teaching position last October.

Illinois Teacher Arrested for Sex Assault

(Grayslake, Illinois) A 30-year-old teacher formerly at Grant High School, Amber Kraus, has been arrested for sex with a student.

Kraus faces counts of sexual assault of a student between the ages of 13 and 17 and aggravated criminal sexual abuse for violating a position of trust and authority.
Kraus lived in Grayslake at the time of the alleged assault and recently moved to Mundelein. She resigned her position at the high school in October.

Supt. Christine Sefcik said in a press release that the police immediately were contacted and the incident appears to be just an isolated incident. The case was transferred to Grayslake police once it appeared the contact with the student occurred in that village and police jurisdiction.
Kraus was booked into custody with bond set at $100,000.
