Carolina Woman Accused of Felony Assault

(Hickory, North Carolina) A 20-year-old local woman, Kayla Marie Russell, has been arrested for allegedly stabbing a local man last Friday night.

Russell faces a felony count of assault with a deadly weapon.

Her arrest stems from an incident at about 10:40 p.m. Friday when Police were called to the 1700 block of 5th Avenue S.W. in Hickory in response to reports of a stabbing. Police arrived to find the victim on the ground in a yard there.

The victim, a 42-year-old Hickory man, was taken to Frye Regional Medical Center for treatment of his injuries which were described as soft-tissue cuts and were not thought to be life-threatening.

Witnesses told Police they heard yelling and fighting in the roadway and one witness reported seeing Russell striking the victim.

Russell was booked into custody at the Catawba Co. Detention Facility with bond set at $20,000.
