Teacher Acquitted of Sex Charges - Updated

(Rocky Mount, North Carolina) A 39-year-old English teacher at Rocky Mount High School, Kelly Bartz, was arrested this morning for alleged sexual activity with a student.

Bartz was indicted by a Nash County grand jury on charges of sexual activity with a student by a teacher.

The date of offense was June 20, and a warrant for her arrest was issued Monday, according to the Nash County Clerk of Courts Office.

Bartz resigned from her position as an English teacher at Rocky Mount High School on June 30, according to Nash-Rocky Mount Public Schools. She began working with the school system in October 1997.

Bartz was booked into custody at the Nash County Jail and released on $2,000 bond. A court appearance is scheduled for August 25.
