(Katy, Texas) Last Friday, a 38-year-old local woman, Lori David, admitted to sending lewd pictures showing her breasts and vagina to a 16-year-old boy, her son's friend.David pleaded guilty to one count of online solicitation of a minor. While she was looking at a potential two to ten years in prison, Judge Vanessa Velasquez instead sentenced her to five years probation.
There are a number of stipulations to that sentence.
David is to be listed as a sex offender for the next 15 years. She will not be allowed to use the Internet (except for work) until she completes her probation.
She is not allowed to text anyone except family members, and she is not allowed around any children save members of her family. Judge Velasquez says that will remain the case until a psychiatrist tells her that David is rehabilitating.
The judge further told David that she could not attend any of her son's school functions save his graduation from Katy Taylor High School.

But 10 days before their deadline, members of the so-called congressional "super committee" created to forge a deficit reduction deal indicated Sunday that they remain hung up on basic issues of tax and entitlement reform that have previously stymied agreement.
PG&E customers who joined the program pay a little extra on their monthly bills - about $3.30 for a typical homeowner. PG&E uses the money to fund projects that fight the buildup of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere, such as preserving forests from logging or capturing methane from cow manure.According to PG&E spokeswoman Katie Romans, the ClimateSmart "demonstration" program has concluded after meeting its goal. I'd suggest ClimateSmart became a "demonstration" program after it was clearly a failure.
But the program attracted just a fraction of the roughly 168,000 customers that PG&E predicted. Enrollment peaked in 2008 at just under 31,000. By the end of last year, it had slipped to 29,623.

Police recovered a .380-caliber handgun.Officers arrested Brabham on charges of attempted murder, possession of a firearm in commission of a violent crime, discharging a firearm in city limits and malicious damage to a vehicle.Brabham was booked into custody at the Colleton County Jail.

Two men in Northwest Alaska drowned after trying to drive their snowmachine over open water on the Kobuk River early Tuesday, according to Alaska State Troopers.The strong current pulled the men under. Bodies were recovered around 3AM.
Brandon Cleveland, 21, Roger Cleveland, 29, and others from the village of Ambler were setting fish traps on the river sometime before 1 a.m. Tuesday, troopers spokeswoman Megan Peters said.

(Troy, Texas) A 31-year-old social studies teacher formerly at Troy Middle School, Kaci S. Pomerenke, has been accused of engaging in sex with a 14-year-old male student.The arrest affidavit states that Pomerenke resigned Tuesday from the Troy Independent School District after meeting with Superintendent Neil Jeter earlier in the day.Pomerenke was booked into custody and subsequently released on $10,000 bail.
According to the affidavit, Pomerenke admitted to the questionable sexual encounters from January 2011 involving a 14-year-old student.
The affidavit goes on to say that Pomerenke admitted to having sex with the student in her car three times during the month of January 2011.
"When Graham McMillan decided to run for a student government office at Texas Christian University, he had no idea that he would land in trouble – all because of his campaign slogan – “Graham Cracker.”
A university official at the home of the Horned Frogs told the 20-year-old sophomore that his campaign signs were offensive and unless the offending word was blocked – the signs would have to come down.
“My advisor contacted me and informed me that it might be considered derogatory,” the political science major told Fox News. “I certainly didn’t mean it to be derogatory, but I didn’t want to offend anybody who may perceive it as such.”
University officials released a statement to Fox confirming that the offensive word is ‘cracker.’
“She recommended that he either remove the signs or cover the word ‘cracker’ with tape and he opted to cover the word,” a university spokesperson told Fox.
Cracker’ is sometimes used as a pejorative term for white people.
For as long as he can remember McMillan would introduce himself using the term. “I’d say, ‘Hi. My name’s Graham – like the cracker,’” he told Fox News. “So that’s why I decided to use it as my campaign slogan.”

(Richland County, South Carolina) A 36-year-old Public Safety Officer with the Department of Mental Health, Tina Lynette Howell, has been accused of engaging in an inappropriate relationship with a sexually violent predator in a state treatment program.Tina Lynette Howell was arrested Tuesday and charged with misconduct in office.It's unknown what allure a sexually violent predator could possibly possess.
Investigators say the 36-year-old had sexually explicit phone calls with a patient in the sexually violent predator treatment program at the Broad River Correctional Institute in Columbia.
According to warrants, the calls took place late last month.
"The Vatican has dubbed comic book character turned silver screen action hero Tintin a 'Catholic hero' and ridiculed suggestions he may be racist.
In its official newspaper L'Osservatore Romano, the Vatican published a picture of the children's hero beneath one of Pope Benedict XVI and then carried a double page article inside praising Tintin and his faithful dog Snowy.

Cervantes was allegedly caught in the act by her husband.Sellersburg Police Chief Russ Whelan said Cervantes had hosted a small gathering at her house with her daughter’s teenage friends and boyfriend.Cervantes was booked into custody at the Michael L. Becher Adult Corrections Complex with bond set at $30,000.
“There were several people there during that night when it happened,” Whelan said. “I know there was some alcohol involved.”
According to the charging information, Cervantes is accused of helping or encouraging the alleged victim to consume alcohol.

"The ACLU’s battle to obtain school records surrounding a 2009 incident in Collier County, Florida, referred to as “Kick a Jew Day,” have failed. A judge has dismissed the group’s lawsuit, which sought to obtain records detailing 10 middle school students‘ discriminatory plans and behaviors as well the school district’s investigation of the incident.
Two years ago, on November 19, 2009, the children decided to imitate a “South Park” episode — with a twist. While the fictional cartoon characters in the show targeted red-heded individuals with a “Kick a Ginger Day,” the Collier County students apparently did something similar — an effort to target and kick Jews. In the end, they were punished with a one-day in-school suspension, which some critics believe wasn’t enough.
Since the incident, the ACLU has continued to seek the documents in an effort to look further into the incident. While the group cannot refile the case, it may be heard by the Second District Court of Appeal. Once the judge signs the final order, the appellate court may offer a different decision regarding the students’ education records.
“Kick a Jew Day” events have occurred in other middle and high schools across America as well. Last December, a similar incident unfolded at Vestal High School in Vestal, New York.

Dozens of suspected counterfeit parts have been installed on U.S. defense equipment from Raytheon Co., L-3 Communications Holdings Inc. and Boeing Co., including aircraft deployed to Afghanistan.Reportedly, a database has been compiled detailing 1,800 cases of counterfeiting involving one million parts, the majority of which has been traced to the Chinese.
The Senate Armed Services Committee found counterfeit parts -- usually from China -- on at least seven aircraft, including the Lockheed Martin Corp. C-130J transport plane, Boeing P-8A Poseidon maritime patrol and L-3 27J Spartan transport.
“Suspect electronic parts from China were installed on military systems and subsystems that were manufactured by Raytheon Co., L-3 Communications and Boeing,” said the memo from the committee’s staff, released yesterday in advance of a hearing today.
None of the examples were connected to instances of lives lost or dramatic failures causing an aircraft crash, Michigan Senator Carl Levin, the committee chairman, said.

This past summer, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit ruled against student Kara Kowalski on her First Amendment claim. The case arose after Kowalski was suspended by her high school based on scurrilous remarks she had made about another student on a MySpace discussion page, while she was in her own home, on her home computer. Now, Kowalski is seeking Supreme Court review.
As with many First Amendment cases, the facts of Kowalski’s case aren’t pretty. First Amendment plaintiffs are typically a rogues’ gallery, and even courts that rule in their favor usually give their blessing to the principle, not the person. And surely, no one would defend what Kowalski said here—only her right to say it.
The MySpace webpage Kowalski created was called “S.A.S.H,” which, she testified in her deposition, stood for “Students Against Sluts Herpes.” However, a classmate who accessed the site said that “S.A.S.H” actually stood for “Students Against Shay’s Herpes”—with “Shay” referring to a fellow student who was discussed at length on the webpage.
At Kowalski’s invitation, about two dozen students from her high school joined the MySpace group associated with the webpage and thus accessed the webpage. Further discussion on the webpage then seemed to confirm that “S.A.S.H.,” and thus the herpes claim, in fact referred to the student known as Shay N., and not to “Sluts.” (Last names of juveniles are typically not used in judicial opinions in order to protect their privacy.) Shay N. was also called a “slut” on the webpage.
When Shay N.’s parents learned about the webpage, they filed a harassment complaint on their daughter’s behalf with the school. Kowalski was then suspended for violating the school’s rule against creating a “hate website” and its policy against harassment, bullying, and intimidation.
Thus, the core question the Fourth Circuit addressed was whether the policy could, consistent with the First Amendment, reach outside the school and into Kowalski’s home.
The Fourth Circuit held that it could. More specifically, it held that Kowalski’s suspension was constitutional because she “used the Internet to orchestrate a targeted attack on a classmate, and did so in a manner that was sufficiently connected to the school environment as to implicate the School District’s recognized authority to discipline speech which ‘materially and substantially interfere[s] with the requirements of appropriate discipline in the operation of the school and collid[es] with the rights of others.’”

(Memphis, Tennessee) A 23-year-old guidance counselor at a local school, Cinnamon Davis, has been accused of liquoring up and engaging in sex with a 17-year-old male student.The victim's mother told police that her son did not come home the weekend of May 27, according to a police affidavit.Davis was booked into custody with bond set at $25,000.
Two days later, he returned home at about midnight, eventually telling his mother that he had been staying with his guidance counselor at her apartment…
(Boise, Idaho) A 37-year-old woman, Dorothea C. Seidenglanz, was arrested Friday at the Boise Airport while deplaning a flight from Seattle.It was when the plane was in the air that Seidenglanz is accused of being verbally abusive to the stewardess who had told her to turn off the cell phone during takeoff.Seidenglanz was booked into custody at the Ada County Jail and released on bond.
Witnesses say Seidenglanz threw a plastic cup at the stewardess, which hit her in the head.
Boise police were waiting for Seidenglanz when she got off the plane and arrested her after an investigation.
(Calhoun County, Michigan) Earlier today, former Battle Creek teacher's aide April Patzkowsky waived her preliminary examination on five counts of first-degree criminal sexual conduct and she will now go to trial.She faces up to life in prison if convicted.Patzkowsky is in custody at the Calhoun County Jail with bond set at $150,000.
Patzkowsky is charged with having sex with a 14-year-old boy last summer at a home in Emmett Township.
Investigators said she was a teacher's aide at W.K. Kellogg Middle School where the boy was a student.
Police said the relationship continued over several months.
The Emmett Township Department of Public Safety began its investigation last year and Patzkowsky subsequently moved to Brownsville, Texas.
Emmett Township Detective Seth Graves says the child involved was a student in the class she helped.Patzkowsky awaits extradition in the Cameron County (TX) Jail.
W.K. Kellogg is in downtown Battle Creek, but the alleged incidents happened in Emmett Township.
Det. Graves says he doesn't believe that more than one child was involved.
After the verdict, court officials had to carry out both women as they collapsed and family members from both sides sobbed.

A Utah woman accused of trying to sell her 13-year-old daughter's virginity pleaded guilty Monday to having the girl model in her underwear for men.Sentencing is scheduled for December 5.
The 33-year-old woman entered the plea in Salt Lake City to two counts of sexual exploitation of a minor. She also had faced two first-degree felony counts of aggravated sex abuse of a child and life in prison if convicted.
Prosecutors agreed to drop those charges in exchange for her plea.
The House on Tuesday passed a non-binding resolution reaffirming "In God We Trust" as the national motto.
The measure sponsored by Rep. Randy Forbes, R-Va., supports and encourages the motto's display in all public schools and government buildings. It was approved 396-9, with 2 abstentions.
Forbes said the resolution was needed because President Obama had once called "E pluribus unum" the national motto, and the Latin phrase meaning "from many one" was engraved in the new Capitol Visitors Center until Congress ordered that it be corrected.
Rep. Jerrold Nadler, D-N.Y., called the resolution a meaningless distraction from the nation's real problems. "Nobody is threatening the national motto," he said.
President Obama responded Wednesday by trying to shame the Republican-controlled House by accusing its leaders of wasting time during a jobs crisis with debates over commemorative baseball coins and reaffirming "In God We Trust" as the country's motto.

(Mayfield, Kentucky) A 38-year-old Spanish teacher at Graves County High School, Amy Noles, has been accused of engaging in sex with a male student.The superintendent said for now, the district has placed Noles on unpaid administrative leave. Her future at the school depends on the outcome of the investigation.Noles currently resides in custody at the Graves County Jail.
At this point, investigators aren't saying much. They had no comment on the nature of the relationship, where it occurred or how long it had been going on.
While authorities aren't saying much about the alleged relationship, the superintendent said a little about the alleged victim. He said he believes only one student had inappropriate relations with Noles. That student is a male and he's under the age of 18.

(Middletown, Pennsylvania) A 41-year-old woman, Lhonda Kanode, has been accused of engaging in repeated sex with a 15-year-old boy between March and November 2011.Police also accuse her of sending a nude photograph of herself to the teen's cell phone.Kanode was booked into custody with bond set at $100,000.
Kanode was charged Wednesday with felony counts of involuntary deviate sexual intercourse and statutory sexual assault, as well as charges of indecent assault, and corruption of minors, according to court documents.

Hessler had been the company's advertising face for years, and giant posters featuring the model were a fixture in many German cities.
Talks between Telefonica and Hessler's agency did not yield a solution because Hessler stood by her comments, said Fetsch. "We and our clients have no comprehension for what she said."

(Brunswick, Ohio) A 41-year-old local woman, Shannon Hurley, has been accused of liquoring up and having sex with two boys at her house during a sleepover.Brunswick police say on August 27, Hurley provided the boys, ages 14 and 16, with alcohol.Hurley was booked into custody and released on bond.
"I don't know if she gave any to her own children, it was provided to the two boys," said Brunswick Police Public Information Officer Nick Solar.
According to police, Hurley said she "blacked out" during the alleged incident.
(Pace, Florida) In September 2011, Sheryle Lynn Vanlandingham, now 42, pleaded no contest to felony sexual assault of a 16- or 17-year-old and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.After speaking with Vanlandingham and the youth, the deputy charged Vanlandingham with felony sexual battery and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.Vanlandingham was booked into custody at the Santa Rosa County Jail and subsequently released on $10,000 bond.
(Beaufort, South Carolina) A 45-year-old teacher at Broad River Elementary School, Alma Weeks, was arrested Sunday after police found marijuana and evidence of dealing marijuana in her home.Officers saw what they believed to be marijuana on the floor of the apartment. As they followed her up the stairs, they observed Weeks hiding a plant inside a closet. The officers obtained a search warrant, and found three marijuana plants.Both Weeks and Mobley have been charged with multiple drug offenses. They were booked into custody and released on their own recognizance.
Beaufort Police Chief Matt Clancy said he wasn't sure how the marijuana was packaged but that it was obvious it wasn't for personal use.

Nevertheless, the story is presented with a sense of serious concern and, arguably, alarm.
"They are no longer being monitored in any kind of way, so they can do whatever they want to do," said Alvord.
Once these offenders are removed from the registry, there is no way to track them, and no one is watching what they are doing.

Deputies said when the crime occurred Wren was babysitting. Apparently, he was staying with the child’s parents. Wren remains in jail without bond. He is also in protective custody.
