(Oak Grove, Louisiana) Former English teacher and coach, Brittany Sumrall Johnson, 26, has admitted to sending sexually suggestive emails to a 14-year-old male student. For pleading guilty to a charge of contributing to the delinquency of a juvenile, Johnson was sentenced to probation. District Attorney Billy Coenen said special terms of 26-year-old Brittany Johnson's 2-year supervised probation forbid her to teach or have contact with anyone under the age of 17.Johnson ultimately resigned her tenured position with the school system. It's worth noting that Johnson, as an English teacher, was somehow able to write garbage such as: "oh yea and in the closet, I so wanted to grab you and pull u in there and shut that door and take full advantage of you..."How in the world did Johnson ever get credentials as an English teacher? Louisiana Teacher Accused of Inappropriate Emails to Boy [Previous 1/9/09 post] (Bastrop, Louisiana) A 26-year-old English teacher and girls basketball coach at Kilbourne High School, Brittany Sumrall Johnson, has been accused of sending inappropriate messages to a 14-year-old student. The reports claim Johnson sent messages asking the 14 year old boy for sex. The family wants her arrested and for her to resign or be dismissed. The boy's parents are adamantly demanding an investigation due to the nature of the emails sent by Johnson. For example: Some of the e-mails stated: "And oh my gosh did u look hot! I can't wait 4 u 2 play varsity (so) we can hook up on the bus on the way home lol!,"; "oh yea and in the closet, I so wanted to grab you and pull u in there and shut that door and take full advantage of you..."; and "has anyone ever told u that u have a fine a-- and body?"Expect more on this story shortly. |

(Wooster, Ohio) Yesterday, 34-year-old former Rittman High School teacher Erin Speicher pleaded guilty to seven counts of sexual battery. Each count carries a possible penalty of five years in prison. According to Judge Robert J. The Christian Action Network runs afoul of bureaucratic political correctness: "An organization in the national spotlight recently for producing a documentary identifying several dozen potential terrorist training compounds in the U.S. has offended the sensibilities of Maine bureaucrats, who have fined the organization $4,000, alleging among other things that the group sent out mailings containing an “inflammatory anti-Muslim message.” If you read further in the link provided you will see that the Maine bureaucrats are now resorting to lies to defend their unconstitutional actions. (Comoros Islands) Yemenia Air flight IY 626 from Paris to Sana'a, Yemen, via Marseilles and the Comoros Islands, crashed into the Indian Ocean after an aborted landing attempt at the Moroni Airport on Grand Comore. The plane was an Airbus 310. Passengers on flight IY 626 included 66 French nationals. Casualties are reported at 152 with one apparent survivor. The Comoros government said speed boats were sent to look for signs of wreckage immediately, helped by two French fighter jets based in Mayotte and another of the country's Indian Ocean territories, Reunion. No initial suspicion of terrorism has been reported. Rather, maintenance problems have been suggested as the cause. |

(Malmö, Sweden) Topless bathing has been made legal at public swimming pools in the city of Malmö. The issue was taken up by city lawmakers after a group of feminists started showing off their breasts at public swimming pools. Rather than address the specific concern, the lawmakers decided to rule that "everybody should wear bathing suits." Therefore, women only have to wear the bottom part of a bikini to meet the requirement. According to a city council spokesman: A feminist leader remarked that the issue is about equality and the problem is that women are sexualized when appearing topless in public. Apparently, the mere fact that a physical attraction exists between men and women is problematic to feminists. In my opinion, physical attractiveness is more a fact of life than a problem. (Huntingdon, Pennsylvania) A 39-year-old local mom and secretary at Huntingdon Area High School, Caroline Maria McNeal, was arraigned last Friday in Magisterial District Court on charges stemming from a grade changing scheme implemented to benefit her daughter. The grade changes were made with McNeal using her own and other school employees' user names and passwords. McNeal faces 29 counts of unlawful use of a computer and 29 counts of tampering with public records, all third-degree felonies. The first clue that something was amiss came when a high school guidance office employee in fall 2007 noticed that the SAT college entrance exam score in the school computer for Ms. McNeal's daughter was higher than the one sent by the College Board, 1730 vs. 1370.Reportedly, McNeal's husband and daughter were unaware of the grade-changing scheme. McNeal was released on her own recognizance. If convicted, McNeal faces potentially significant prison time, seven years on each count. |

(Sacramento, California) Effective July 1st, the state-run health care insurance system (Medi-Cal/Denti-Cal) will eliminate adult dental care benefits, podiatry benefits and optometry benefits in an effort to save money. Apparently, health care decision-makers blew right past any thoughts of rationing the benefits and opted to make them simply disappear completely. The California Primary Care Association pitched a complaint but a Superior Court judge ruled against them. In any event, one might logically expect a similar approach to cost-saving when a national health care scheme is adopted. Companion posts at SocGlory and The Jawa Report. |

No dissent from the Warmist Gospel allowed: Mitchell Taylor, who has studied the bears for 30 years, was barred from a U.N. conference about them "Over the coming days a curiously revealing event will be taking place in Copenhagen. Top of the agenda at a meeting of the Polar Bear Specialist Group (set up under the International Union for the Conservation of Nature/Species Survival Commission) will be the need to produce a suitably scary report on how polar bears are being threatened with extinction by man-made global warming. (Caracas, Venezuela) By now, everybody has heard that the President of Honduras, Manuel Zelaya, has been ousted by the army and a new president, Roberto Micheletti, has been sworn in. Zelaya was forcibly removed from his home in the middle of the night and sent to Costa Rica. President Obama said he was "deeply concerned" by events in Honduras. Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez, an ally of Zelaya's, placed his military forces on high alert and threatened war. Chavez, on state television, said if the Venezuela ambassador was killed, or troops entered the Venezuela embassy, "that military junta would be entering a defacto state of war, we would have to act militarily." He said,"I have put the armed forces of Venezuela on alert."Based upon the Obama administration's limp reaction to the turmoil in Iran, I suggest there won't be much comment out of Washington for a few days at least. |

(Kathmandu, Nepal) The government's anti-corruption watchdog has become aware of rampant bribery being committed at Kathmandu's Tribhuvan International Airport. Apparently, complaints have been lodged because travelers wanting preferential treatment during screenings and inspections can easily slip some cash to airport workers. To address the "irregularities" (Nepalese for bribery), the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) has ordered that all airport officials be given trousers with no pockets. (Guangdong Province, China) In Shaoguan City, the government has pressured factories to hire poor people from western provinces. As a result, the Early Light Toy factory recruited about 800 Muslim Uighurs in the past two months from Xinjiang Province, home to eight million Uighurs. Unfortunately, persistent ethnic friction between the Han Chinese and the Muslim Uighurs sparked into violence last Thursday by alleged Uighur assaults on Han Chinese girls. One source indicates that Uighurs committed a series of robberies in addition to rapes. According to a former female Early Light factory worker, the first rape occurred in the woods behind the factory and the perpetrators were three Uighur male workers. One week later, another female worker went out for a midnight snack and was dragged into the Uighur dormitory and gang raped. When the security guards brought her out, she was stark naked. The factory offered her 10,000 RMB to keep quiet. This was the last straw for the Han workers. Two people died in the confrontation, both Uighurs. Injuries were reported at 118, injured Uighurs accounted for 79. And, naturally, the incident caught the attention of the all-seeing central government. The authorities have reportedly told major Internet chatrooms to remove postings about the clash as it could impede the government's policy of encouraging coastal provinces to hire minorities from China's less-developed western region.Another source makes no mention of any rapes but does indicate that a Han Chinese girl was harassed by Uighurs and she screamed, thereby igniting violence. In any event, the tension between the Uighurs and Han Chinese is great enough that virtually anything could trigger violence. I would speculate that the conflict is not just ethnic. The Han Chinese might be a bit pissed that the government is importing workers to take jobs away from their families and friends. |

(Boston, Massachusetts) Reported earlier this month, the Boston Alliance of Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender Youth, or BAGLY, sponsored a May 9th Youth Pride Day prom for alternatively-oriented youths at the Boston City Hall. The event was reportedly attended by "children apparently as young as 12 featuring crossdressers, homosexual heavy petting, suspected drug use and a leather-clad doorman who teaches sexual bondage classes." An eyewitness reported details of the event, with images, here. One could assert that the event illustrates what happens when morality is relative. Complaining parents only have themselves to blame. Mark Pritchard is accused of calling PC Ray McQuarrie a ‘scuffer’ – said to be slang for peasant – and of trying to push him out of the way when his route to the Commons was blocked. Here's a ridiculous gun control plan out of Massachusetts that appears to be based on the unsupported belief that licensed gun owners in the state are regularly selling their weapons to street criminals. "An Act to Reduce Firearm Violence," (H4102), an insulting, anti-gun bill filed by Governor Deval Patrick, will do nothing of the sort. The bill is just another smokescreen by the governor to divert attention away from failed social programs and a failed criminal justice system, which refuses to keep hardened, gun-wielding criminals behind bars, where they belong. The bill only infringes upon our constitutional rights and will cause increased hardship for law-abiding citizens who own guns for hunting, the shooting sports and home protection. And, there's more. The bill would make it illegal for legal gun owners to sell guns to other legal gun owners. Instead, all transactions will have to be performed through a licensed gun dealer with, of course, payment of a government fee. More at the link. Companion posts at GunWatch and The Jawa Report. |

(Los Angeles, California) A report from the AP discloses that foreign police officers are now performing law enforcement functions in the United States under a scheme supported by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officials. Reportedly, foreign police officers from Mexico, Argentina, Colombia and Canada are participating. Although it's generally indicated that the foreign police are engaged in anti-smuggling operations, it's unclear what specific law enforcement functions they are permitted to perform. For example, it's mentioned that Canadian law enforcement officers have been given arrest authority in New York whereas Mexican officers do not have the same authority in Texas. However, Mexican officers are given the authority to investigate in Texas which logically means they can interview and interrogate suspects. Consequently, one must ask which nation's laws and procedures are employed when foreign officers perform these functions. Interrogation of suspects under Mexican law is quite different from interrogations conducted under U.S. law. Also, arrests of suspects in the U.S. by Canadian officers appear to be completely outside the law. And it seems to set a dangerous precedent where any nation could send policemen to the U.S. to arrest somebody to be tried in a court in -- pick a place -- Beijing or Islamabad or Pyongyang. According to Tim Durst, ICE chief of contraband smuggling, the focus of the effort is information. "We look at it as real-time, firsthand information sharing. It is one of the few ways to go back to the source of smuggling activity."So, according to Durst, the whole scheme is designed for information-sharing but, as described, it appears to go way beyond simple communications. To my knowledge, putting someone in handcuffs has never been considered "information-sharing." Nonetheless, the way the scheme supposedly works is that U.S. immigration and border patrol officers tell the Mexican, Colombian, Argentine and Canadian officers the plans for disrupting smuggling operations and the foreign officers tell their colleagues back in Mexico, Colombia, Argentina and Canada what is going down. The intended result is cross-border cooperation in stopping the flow of contraband. Of course, the whole plan is predicated on a belief that most law enforcers in the foreign countries are not corrupt. I suggest that the belief is flawed with regard to Mexico, Colombia and Argentina where police allegedly often work in unison with smugglers. In conclusion, I contend that foreign police performing law enforcement functions in the U.S. is not a good idea and it probably violates wheelbarrows-full of existing American laws. And most troubling of all is a statement by Tim Durst, the head anti-smuggling man with ICE. "By working with our foreign partners, we can basically remove the border as a barrier," Durst said.Frankly, I don't know how anyone in a position of authority could suggest removing the border. |

Is this the new “justice” for America? A massive armed federal raid in Utah has resulted in two deaths, including the suicide of a popular small town doctor. Those arrested have been accused of stealing American Indian artifacts from federal land. The Obama administration’s Secretary of the Interior, Ken Salazar flew to Salt Lake City to proudly announce the raid. But the arrests were conducted in a chilling manner. According to the LA Times: Shortly after sunrise last week, a squad of flak-jacketed federal agents surrounded the remote home of Dr. James Redd, arrested his wife and then stopped the 60-year-old doctor as he returned from his morning rounds to arrest him as well…. The Times story says that the US attorney for Utah “noted that many of the defendants own guns, common in this part of the country but still a cause for caution.” "Eighteen vehicles surrounded the Redd’s house,” San Juan County Supervisor Bruce Adams said in an interview. “Do we do that with child molesters? With murderers?” He added, “I haven’t seen a piece of pottery or an artifact that’s worth a human life.” All of this for stealing shards of pottery. For those Americans who bitterly cling to their guns and Bibles … did you get the message? SOURCE Posted by John Ray. |

From the Leftist "Media Matters": "CNN's Deborah Feyerick reported the charge from "some lawmakers and religious groups" that the hate crimes bill "could be used to criminalize conservative speech on abortion or homosexuality." But she did not note that the bill specifically states, "Nothing in this Act shall be construed to allow prosecution based solely upon an individual's expression of racial, religious, political, or other beliefs." What the above appears to overlook is that the bill has undergone various changes during its now rather long life and I must confess that there might have been a recent change that has escaped me. As far as I can see, however, Media Matters is referring to an older version of the bill rather than the current one. What is apparently the current text of the bill is here. The definitions it refers to are from H.R.3355 (Violent Crime Control and Law Enforcement Act of 1994) and can be found here. Earlier versions of the bill did explicitly include a statement that speech was not targeted but that has now gone. At the end of the bill there is simply a pointless assertion that the bill does not attack any constitutional protections (such as the 1st Amendment). Posted by John Ray. |

Both Greenies and conservatives think the bill is useless and yet it could still be enacted! As the Waxman-Markey Climate Bill nears a vote in the U.S. House of Representatives, environmental groups are "teetering at the edge of existential crisis," writes Josh Harkinson. "Almost all environmental groups agree that Waxman-Markey is far from ideal," but some are supporting it, while others "believe the bill is so deeply flawed it might actually make matters worse." Critics say the bill "lines the pockets of polluters with little to show for it. The most it would cut carbon emissions by 2020 is 17 percent below 1990 levels, nowhere near the 25 to 40 percent reduction sought by scientists and international climate negotiators." Other concerns are that the bill may decrease clean energy production, as it would overrule higher renewable mandates in states like California; it would strip the Environmental Protection Agency of its ability to regulate carbon dioxide emissions from coal plants; and it would auction just 15 percent of emissions permits, giving a whopping 50 percent "to the fossil fuel industry for free." Some environmentalists blame the United States Climate Action Partnership, "a coalition of industry and moderate environmental groups," for sticking with a "quietly hammered out" agreement developed during the Bush administration. Others criticize President Obama, "who spoke out in favor of auctioning off pollution permits during his campaign ... but is now thought likely to sign whatever bill crosses his desk." Meanwhile, the industry front group Cooler Heads Coalition is planning efforts to oppose the bill, with "scientific skeptics and legislative critics," reports Greenwire. SOURCE Posted by John Ray. |

In response, Kenya placed some military installations on high alert status with all leave time and off days cancelled. Also, a Kenyan Police Rapid Response Unit has been dispatched to guard the bridge. All vehicles and passengers are being thoroughly searched. "Our security is on high alert," government spokesman Alfred Mutua said during the weekly briefing in Nairobi on Thursday. [...]With a waiver of the UN arms embargo, military arms are flowing to the government of Somalia, led by embattled President Sheikh Sharrif who Osama bin Laden calls an enemy. Reportedly, arms and ammunition are being supplied through and from nearby African countries with costs being reimbursed by the U.S. Meanwhile, 15 Somali MPs have fled to Kenya along with a constant flow of refugees. Approximately 275,000 Somalis are camped in Kenya and the number grows by an estimated 200 daily. Al-Shabaab controls most of south Somalia and most of the capital of Mogadishu and has instituted particularly barbaric practices of double limb amputations, floggings and executions to enforce its extreme beliefs. McDonald apologized for her behavior, however, the victim, now 17, said he wished the death penalty would be an option for McDonald. The statute of limitations was not an impediment to prosecuting the case since the victim has not turned 18 yet. The incident came to light recently when the teen told his parents.Sentencing has been scheduled for June 19 by Circuit Judge James Shadid. | Thursday, June 25, 2009

New Webpage Provides List to Public In light of the ABC World News program's decision to host a "Town Hall" meeting on health care at the White House without opposition participation, the National Center for Public Policy Research is making a list of ABC World News sponsors available online for those who wish to boycott sponsors or/or send a letter of protest to them. The list of sponsors includes sponsors from the June 18, 2009 program - the date ABC announced the White House-based program would take place - to the present and beyond, and is available at www.nationalcenter.org/ABCNewsSponsors.html. "Town Hall meetings are generally understood to cover a wide range of viewpoints," said National Center for Public Policy Research president Amy Ridenour, "and network newscasts are supposed to be objective. Yet ABC is holding a Town Meeting with the chief backer of government-run health care at a venue entirely favorable to him, and inviting opposition only in the form of questions to him from a generalized audience placed in an entirely inferior position. An objective conversation is impossible under those conditions." "Moreover," said Ridenour, "ABC News has refused offers from opponents of the President's plan even to buy paid advertising during scheduled commercial breaks. ABC is not only pitching for Obama, it's pitching him a no-hitter." "Many Americans, probably millions, believe so-called 'ObamaCare' will lead to shortages of health care services, leading to pain, misery and even death," Ridenour continued, "as this is the experience of every nation that has tried government-run health care so far, The health care debate is literally life-and-death, yet ABC is treating it like an afternoon tea at the White House." "Because of this," she concluded, "the National Center for Public Policy Research is posting online a list of all the sponsors of ABC World News since ABC announced this program, and we encourage people to make their views -- including, if they so choose, with their wallets -- known to ABC's sponsors." The list of ABC World News sponsors can be found online here. SOURCE Posted by John Ray. |

(Jakarta, Indonesia) A Singaporean identified as Husaini Ismail, an alleged plotter in the 2001 terrorist scheme to crash a plane into Singapore's Changi Airport, has been arrested by Indonesian Police. A police source close to the investigation said Husaini had moved around Sumbawa, West Nusa Tenggara, in 2006-07 before settling down in Central Java.Another source reports that all five terrorists involved in the failed Changi Airport plot have now been captured. Also, Husaini Ismail will be prosecuted in Indonesia rather than being deported to Singapore. Meanwhile, Amnesty International issued a report earlier today claiming that torture is commonly practiced by Indonesian Police. The report - Unfinished Business: Police Accountability In Indonesia - found that the police were particularly brutal to the most vulnerable and marginalised people, such as drug addicts and women.Furthermore, Human Rights Watch issued an earlier report also stating that torture and abuse of jailed prisoners in Indonesia are rampant. Comment by David Yeagley below. I add some further notes at the foot of his post In the great American liberal media, the word “conservative” represents the bad guys, the meanies. Any liberal media report on Iran’s current crisis will use the world “conservative” in reference to the mullahs, Ahmadinejad, and the present regime. By contrast, anyone who respects human rights (sometimes called “freedom”) is to be called “liberal.” The truth is exactly the opposite. This is not something that should be ignored, unnoticed, or not condemned. Liberals think the conservatives are those clinging to tradition, or to “their guns or religion,” as Barry Soetoro, acting US president, declared. This is a highly relative, subjective call. When applied to the country of Iran, liberal media shows the classic example of partiality, selective history, and gigantic ignorance. The tradition of Iran is Persia. The foundational identity of Persia is the reign of the Achamenid emperors, from Cyrus the Great (560-530 BC) through Darius III (336-330 BC). This is the era known for general humanitarian sentiments, internationalism, and advanced civilization. This is Iran. Islam is an Arab religion, brought to Iran by the invading slaughters from Arabia in the 8th century AD. There is nothing Persian about this religion, language, or culture. Iran’s Persian culture has survived today because of patriots like Ferdowsi, Persian patriots, who resisted the Arab Islamicist’s attempt to obliterate Persian glory. The Iranians who want to honor and preserve their Persian identity are the true conservatives of Iran. The mullahs are coercivists, just like American liberals, like Barry Soetoro in the White House, who want to coerce their ideas on the American people. Coercion is the liberal way. It is a grave error to equate American conservatism with the Islamic regime in Iran. This is simply grossly mistaken, and should not be ignored. The AP wire by “ALI AKBAR DAREINI and BRIAN MURPHY” demonstrates the typical error: a state-run television channel reported that a suicide bombing at the shrine of the Islamic Revolution leader Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini killed at least two people and wounded eight. The report could be not independently evaluated due to government restrictions on journalists. If proven true, the reports could enrage conservatives and bring strains among backers of opposition leader Mir Hossein Mousavi. Note that the “conservatives” are those who support the Islamic regime. Therefore, the “liberals” must be anyone who opposes them. I say it is time to correct this error. Liberals in America will of course try to take credit for anything good that comes out of the opposition movement in Iran. It’s time the lying deceivers were exposed. SOURCE This same problem arose in the dying days of the old Soviet union. Hardliners there too were often called "conservatives" in the Western media. Journalists saw nothing strange in calling Communists "conservatives"! That is the sort of blindness that could only come out of Left-dominated journalism schools. The mistake arises from the very simple-minded nature of Leftism. Leftists define the political spectrum purely in terms of attitude to the status quo. They are against it so conservatives must be for it. But conservatives such as Ronald Reagan and Margaret Thatcher were great changers of the status quo so does that make them Leftists? Clearly not. So defining politics solely in terms of attitude to the status quo is brain-dead. While it is true that rejection of the status quo defines Leftists pretty well, what defines conservatives is something quite different: A desire for individual liberty. But Leftists know that to change the status quo significantly you need coercive power: the power of government in particular. And conservatives don't want to be coerced. They want individuals to be able to make their own decisions as freely as possible. So that is why the Left and the Right clash. The Soviets, the Ayatollahs and American "liberals" are the ones who are three peas in a pod: They all depend on the coercive power of the State in order to get their way. Conservatives don't want to get their way. They just want to be left alone to do their own thing. Sadly, however, we have to fight the left in order to be left alone. I say much more about the nature of conservatism here -- with particular reference to the history and psychology of conservatism Posted by John Ray. |

(Washington) A measure authored by Democrat Rep. Rick Larsen was approved in the U.S. House of Representatives with intentions of protecting intellectual property rights of green technologies ahead of the Copenhagen global warming meeting in December. The measure was prompted by a belief that the Chinese are aiming to steal green technology and deny the U.S. of "million of jobs" tied to global warming. Despite a recession, President Barack Obama has vowed to work to halt the planet’s warming, which UN scientists warn will threaten severe weather and the extinction of plant and animal species later this century if unchecked.Heh. It appears that concerns regarding global warming are secondary to which country gets to profit. "Sure I want to save the Planet. But first, I want my cut."Some crisis, eh? Logically, if the end-of-the-world scenarios had any validity, nobody would care who profited or received credit for the solution. It's largely a political scam. |

In EU countries, the animals are stunned before slaughter.Christians in Finland are upset about having chicken served to them after being sacrificed to a foreign god. They don't like being misled and have called for a boycott of McDonald's. There has also been some concern about live chickens having their throats cut. THE green movement’s greatest triumph – the abolition of ozone-destroying CFC gases in the 1980s – may become its biggest embarrassment because of research showing that their replacements are sharply accelerating global warming. CFC, or chlorofluorocarbon, gases were widely deployed in air-conditioning and refrigeration units before they were found to destroy the ozone layer and banned under the 1987 Montreal protocol. They were replaced by HFCs – hydrofluorocarbons – gases that have far less effect on ozone but have since been revealed as extremely powerful greenhouse gases. A ton of HFC23 used in refrigeration has the same global warming potential as 14,800 tons of CO2. A ton of HFC-134a, widely used in vehicle air-conditioning units, is equivalent to 1,430 tons of CO2. The problem has been increased by the rising demand for refrigeration and air-conditioning because of economic expansion and population growth in Asia. A study out this week will warn that, by 2050, HFCs could account for up to 19% of global warming. “By 2050, the contribution of HFCs to global warming will be more than that of current global CO2 emissions from houses and office buildings,” said Guus Velders of the Netherlands Environmental Assessment Agency, who did the research. “The contribution of HFCs to global warming is currently small, but can increase to between 9% and 19% of the total contribution by 2050.” CO2 He found that by 2050 the demand for HFCs was likely to have increased by 800% compared with today’s figures.
